Trump to deport hundreds of bison from Montana

Archive link

The Trump administration is planning to evict 950 bison from their grazing pastures on federal lands in Montana.

The Department of the Interior, which has a bison as its logo, has revoked the licence of a rewilding charity trying to restore the natural splendour of the “American Serengeti”, the eco-diverse range of grasslands home to wolves, pronghorns, grizzly bears and mountain lions.

Outrageous! I was expecting them to be flown to a cruel feed lot in some central american country.

Because they need the lands for fracking, or more cows.

You get more milk out of the cow if you force 78 thousand cubic metres of chemical mud under 400 atmospheres of pressure up it's arse.

The bison are more American than him and his family. Of course he'd try to evict them.

Then the charity should arm themselves and threaten anyone who tries to remove them. Worked for the Bundy clan, and they weren't even legally contracted to graze.

Stop
Eating
Beef!

As much as I loved me some burgers, sirloin tips and churrasco, the cost just isn't worth it.

"...and eat bison instead!"

Calm down, Ted Turner. \s

Edit: welp. That's a bit too calm, Ted!

Honestly, my understanding is that Ted Turner basically saved the bison from extinction by deciding to maintain a herd, just so he can serve them up at his restaurant.

The motivations are what they are, but the outcome is definitely positive.

Some of the most common large animals in the world are only so because they're livestock. Otherwise, they might've been extinct by now (compare cows and aurochs, for example). Between that and funding wildlife conservation through hunting and fishing license revenue, having, let's say, "fraught" motivations like that is not unusual at all.

3

When they say deported, does that imply that a different state would take them?

If not, what a dejecting step in conservation by a state that pretends to be a pristine place for wildlife tourism

::: spoiler ... By this point, you could tell me he was genetically engineering Americans into crab people and I wouldn't even bother to check the source. :::

Rather than sending them to God knows where, wouldn't they be better as jerkies?

Edit: Oof... offended vegans detected! I'm only joking, folks!

Boo hoo... I'm sorry you got offended. Apparently I am now responsible for your weak sad heart.

The other human beat me to the punch, but I would strongly suggest you check out the Townsends video series on it. Dude made 4 entire videos about the stuff. It's a very deep dive. Like, so deep you get the bends if you come to the surface too quickly. I love Tasting History, but when it comes to pemmican specifically, the Townsends did it better.

Someone keeps making new accounts on different instances to mass downvote hikingvet, and then admins spend the time to go in and ban them

Harassment, vote manipulation, ban evasion
