Funeral Doom Friday ⚰️
What have you been listening to this week? Whether it's an old favourite, a new release, or maybe even a hidden gem: please share!
Also if you're looking for a recommendation, perhaps for bands similar to a particular band or sound, feel free to ask.
I'm not sure what qualifies something as "funeral doom" and searching the interwebs has only muddied the waters for me.
But Candlemass is always in my rotation and I've been rocking out to the Nightfall album this week (and last week).
"At the gallows end" and "Bewitched" are fantastic tracks.
Hi! Nightfall is a great album! I think I prefer it to Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.
For what qualifies as "funeral doom", the description I'm most familiar with is that it's doom metal played at the pace of a funeral march. The first bands to be attached to this style came from a death/doom background so it also tends to feature similar characteristics of that genre: slow, very distorted guitar riffs, and growled vocals.
But there are also people who use "funeral doom" to describe doom that sounds mournful and would fit being played at a funeral, and I'm 100% here for that.
I have been listening to Oromet's "The Sinking Isle" again. I love the rich atmosphere they create in their music.
