The Taciturn - The Ultimate Sickness (2020)

This is the first, and so far the only, album by the Brazilian band The Taciturn.

The style here is very reminiscent of Shape of Despair, and they even include a cover of "Fallen" from Angels of Distress on this album. They're not a straight-up copy though: there's a good balance here between the dreamy atmosphere and something a little rawer, like waking up from a nightmare to find that being awake is equally as disturbing.

Unfortunately, it appears the band are no longer active. It'd be nice to hear some more material from them if they ever reform.

An Tóramh - Echoes of Eternal Night (2025)

This is the debut album of Minneapolis-based duo An Tóramh, which means "The Wake" in Irish Gaelic. There are strong hints of Russian bands such as Откровения Дождя and Comatose Vigil in their sound, as well as elements that remind me of Evoken.

Overall, this is a great first album and I'm looking forward to hearing more from this band in the future.
