An anti-immigrant right-wing party won >2/3 of the seats, with the former government Putin-loving far right party as biggest opposition, and literal Nazis as third party in parliament.
What the fuck is up with Hungarian voters?

The Socialist Party within Hungary and their membership agreed that it's in their collective interest to stand down their candidates (including incumbent members) for this election, because the electoral system under Orban's rule is rigged to skew in favour of the plurality party, especially when the opposition is divded. To undo it and reform the process to be more fair for other parties, a similar 2/3rds majority is required.

is there somewhere I can read more about this, first I've heard about it

I guess that's what you get with an extremely conservative country. Seems still, the party that won is the least conservative of the available options, and about one of the few pro-EU ones?

their electoral system has been rigged like this… not unlike the USA's

Their priorities are different than yours. Immigration is not that big an issue, the Nazis traditionally get their 5%, and there is 0 incentive in rhetorically appeasing you.

As unflattering as it might seem, I wholeheartedly agree with the last part.

I'm happy. Let's have one Hungarian beer to celebrate! 🍺

Why not more?

Because I want to see them deliver on their promises first. And because TISZA is still pretty conservative, nationalist, right-wing (they say centrist but Imma assume the Overton window has shifted in HU, just like everywhere else).

But I do hope that the biggest shitstain on the EU will come (relatively) clean. That the EU is proven right by not kicking them out.
