As someone that worked in hospitality for years, I can tell you we don't care unless you're actively trying to make a mess like sticking gum to the table or throwing food on the carpet. In fact I'd rather just clean the table without speaking to you but I've got the tism too.

This. I didn’t work in hospitality for very long, and I wasn’t the most gracious or understanding undiagnosed autistic person out there, and even I didn’t really give a shit.

Side note: As a bus boy at a very fancy restaurant, I had a little “crumber” for scraping up crumbs, and I didn’t, like, want to marry the crumbs, but, the way the crumber glided across the white cotton tablecloth, which had that soft but firm feel that you can only achieve after a thousand washings…

Let’s just say, you can put up with a lot of shit when you know you got that glide in your future.

All one can do is create as little mess as possible while still enjoying your meal. Your honest efforts are what most truly shape the nature of your respect for the people around you.

And tablecloths are there for a reason. Do not fret.

Mostly because you're almost guaranteed to not get a straightforward answer.

Yes, but also because I just want the interaction to end as soon as possible. No way I'll be prolonging the agony by asking unnecessary questions that are awkward for both me and the waiter!

My wife and I were both servers in our youth. We always trying to stack and tidy everything up.

I find myself tidyting during or after we finish eating, whether at a MacDonalds or any other restaurant. Cannot help myself as it feels so rude not to. I'll even put plates together so easier to take away.

Keep it as clean as you would at home while serving guests...
Would you feel embarrassed at home, feel like it outside.

It aint that deep nor difficult to be a devent human being.
