Yes, but everybody joined GitHub when it still seemed like a decent platform and before the Microsoft takeover. Not sure everybody would let themselves be fooled again, especially now that we have decent alternatives.
Also, git is floss.
That was 8 years ago... it's never been more popular...
Somebody is someday going to fuse all the advantages of DARCS with Git, & create the Ultimate Repo.
& these turkeys will be seen to be having "no clothes" same as most other VC-trophies.
