I am a fan of L. Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth series. It is known as one of the worst science fiction series written. But when I began to read it as a child before the Internet really existed, I had no context about the series or Hubbard. So I thought it was a ridiculous comedy, not a serious story. If you read it as a comedy or parody it completely changes the books.
