Blocking a user blocks an entire comment tree

I just blocked this spam comment in the image and, while the responses were not important this time, I can no longer see why responses to this comment:

This tells me that I am potentially missing conversations where I may have blocked controversial individuals but I have also blocked everyone speaking to them.

It would be better, in my opinion, if just their comments were hidden and responses were still visible.

Yeah, that's how "blocking" works.

What you want is "hiding" comments from an account, like how reddit just showed a blank spot but still all the replies.

I don't think any app/instance has that ability tho.

Well, I guess I'll just have to stick to my position of blocking what I blocked. Given most of what I blocked, I don't really feel terrible about missing the whole thing.

Yeah, I'll occasionally see a thread that says it has a bunch of replies, and only 1/10th are visible.

If you feel like you're missing out, sign out for a second and reload.

You will almost certainly see some shit that isn't worth seeing and after a couple times you'll stop caring enough to look.

I think an option to hide blocked user's comments would be useful in cases where replies to their comments are corrections or pushback that one may want to see and upvote.
