After much thought, I’ll be sunsetting lebowski.social over the next few days. Family and personal pressures are taking more of my time, and it’s the right moment to step back.

Thank you to all the achievers who have been part of this space through the years. You made it what it was.

The Dude Abides.

Lebowski.social was a good instance, and full of good people. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors... and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Donny. Donny, who loved bowling. And so, Theodore Donald Karabotsos, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well. Good night, sweet prince.

You should sunset it on the 10th. That way we'll at least get a last "Dude, tomorrow's already the tenth."

But I'll miss you Urda. Keep abiding.

That was the plan but I don’t think I’ll make it.

I plan to still be on mastodon, not sure where I’ll move on Lemmy.

It wasn't my home instance but I was always happy to see it in the feed

No telling where we might end up

Rebels like you and me

Nowhere, anywhere, everywhere, out there

Somewhere in between

Cool!

I've just fed that community into lemmy-federate.com so bots have joined from every major instance, to make sure it's post spread far and wide :)

I’m glad you’ll still be around on Lemmy at least. I’ve been thinking about moving to a Piefed instance.

I appreciate this community you setup for us and have thoroughly enjoyed interacting here! For a long time, it was the only community that I had favorited. It’s still only one of two.

Online spaces can often be negative, but this one was overwhelmingly positive. I’m sure your involvement and stewardship are the reasons why.

I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. Take ‘er easy, Dude.
