I think the default is the Download folder? Or maybe Documents? At the bottom of settings, there's an option to specify the default folder; so if that's set then that's where it should be.
I would venture to guess the previous export may not have resulted in a generated file to now find and import. But I would wait on dev response as I could be completely wrong.

EDIT: The file name for the exported file is "connect-settings.json" if you do a search of the device to try and find it.

It's not in Downloads and Documents. And the default setting is "null". But it never asks for location during export.
