PRIMAL: 'Prey For The Wicked' S03E04. Spoilerzone.
A Mira and Fang centered episode. It opens with a jump back to Spear's funeral. There were some really great angles and shots to build a solemn mood.
Some time for mourning goes by, but eventually when things are just starting to seem normal the village is attacked by Entelodonts (pre-historic boarlike creatures), who kill a few villagers before retreating off with a number more live villagers in their clutches, including a child.
The village puts together a rescue party that includes Mira, Fang, and Fang's two offspring.
The party tracks through the wilderness before being ambushed by a huge number of Entelodonts. The combat animation is, as expected, top notch and brutal.
Eventually the party is outmatched and even Fang looks like she won't be able to take out all of the pack.
The Entelodonts catch the smell of something and instantly flee. The rescue party braces for whatever it is that made the predators flee. Out of the shadows steps Spear. Roll credits.
I liked this episode. It gave Mira and Fang great interplay and characterization. It made them active characters rather than Spear alone pushing the plot forward. The early reuniting of the gang means that all the consequences will have time to breathe.
I've seen some people online get worked up about the logistics/timeline of Spear and Mira meeting up, but I personally set all that to the side. In the complaints I've seen there seems to be an unspoken assumption all parties were heading in straight lines and trying to do it at a maximum speed. Simply by putting that assumption aside, the problems are non-problems. I've seen also some intense theorycrafting on the exact social status of the shaman and his relation to the village, and it all seems overly complicated where a simple answer suffices or it is going for such in the weeds details that the presentation of the show either can't or probably shouldn't linger on it.
People find such random stuff to get worked up about. I really liked the episode, the storytelling, animation and action are spectacular as usual. I hope we get a blu-ray boxset with the three seasons and an art book eventually 🤩
