they did. last year. I'm not joking. old JNCOs were (maybe still are) selling for ungodly amounts of money to the point I called my mom up to ask her if she still kept some of my old high school clothes in the attic, specifically my JNCOs. she laughed at me "those huge raggy old pants that looked like they had tails at the bottom? no I tossed those when you moved out" I could have been rich.
The more I think about the late 90s and mid 00s, the less I want to go back to it. What I want is to not know things, not know how horrible things are, because I know things in the 90s and 00s were horrid too, I was just too young to notice.
I'm sure there are some people out there that have nostalgia for 2012 because that's when they were a child. I remember the massive push for Ron Paul 2012 and how insufferable everyone was.
Was it? Because I remember how things were in 2012, and that's not how I remember it. Anita Sarkeesian started her Kickstarter in May of 2012, and thus Gamergate was unofficially born, and 2 years later it was officially born, followed by Brexit, followed by Trump. Technically Anita's stuff wasn't what kicked off Gamergate, but the backlash against her primed an audience ready to pounce when Gamergate actually started and took half the internet on the road to fascism.
2012 is the year everything started going downhill. While yes, some social progress was made, it was in 2012 that the seeds of today's problems were planted, at least on the internet anyway. One could argue that 9/11 and the Patriot Act and massive expansion of executive power contributed heavily as well.
Either way, shit was bad in 2012 as well, we were all just too blind to see it. The only people who actually did see it were pariahs on the internet for years and weren't listened to because they were 'SJW's.

That's nostalgia for you. When we were kids, our parents had fond memories of their early days. In 30 years, kids today will pine for these times. It's how that works. It's not universal, but for most people, they remember fondly the time they were younger, healthier, had less responsibility and their whole lives ahead of them.
I won’t lie, I was a teenager from a privileged background in 2012 and the only thing that I was scared of was the Mayan calendar. It was also the last good year for YouTube before it started to really go downhill.
Everyday I start my morning with coffee made from beans I grind and a stiff bonk to the head courtesy of a rake I leave out for the purpose of hopefully waking up on the middle school playground where I'm surrounded with concerned friends.
If I could go back, there would not be a lot for me back there, except I would be broken, know what is coming, and have even less of a way to stop it (because broken).
God I miss those! Strolling down the street, quickly stutter run up to that sweet ledge and bust a random 6 foot frontside, continue strolling down the street…
JFC that's a mind melt. I forgot that we used to "leave things on" to let them do stuff like download music. "On" was not the default. Now, everything is on all the time and I hadn't realized until this moment how much I was attuned to that. I want to go back.
Looking at this pic makes me conclude I made the right fashion choices (or lack thereof) along the way. Jeans and T-Shirt all the way, even during my black metal phase.
Although during that time I did dye my (long) hair Black No. 1. Which is kinda funny, as someone claimed back then that I looked like a younger Pete Steele (Of Type O Negative fame, who's most famous song is Black No. 1, in case you didn't know).
So what am I wearing now? Yeah, you guessed wrong. My jeans are in the washer, so I'm currently sporting t-shirt and half a track suit. My hair is getting pretty long again, but dying it is just too much hazzle.
Magic The Gathering cards were the NFTs of our generation
Nov 5, 1999, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA: Attorney Frank Totti looks over papers while his client Frances Mountain sorts out Beanie Babies with her ex-husband Harold Mountain in Judge Gerald Hardcastle’s Family Courtroom in Las Vegas November 5. The couple, who were divorced four months ago, were ordered to divide up the collection valued at $2,500 to $5000 but were unable to do so by themselves. The collection was ordered spread on the court floor and divided up one by one under the supervision of Family Court Judge Hardcastle.
Nice! This is just silly. But if it were magic the gathering cards, I would understand.
Which was STILL better than the beanie babies of 1930, which were childhood illnesses, bankruptcies, and foreclosures.
Do you think your mom will get us a Bigfoot from Pizza Hut tonight?
I hope so, and with the 2L Mt Dew!
That already happened.
My daughter is eleven and wears baggy trousers every day. It's happening, man!

Anyone else remember Kikwear? They were somehow even baggier than Jnco
Did I look like that? Dear god, my parents were right...
I’m still sad they discontinued Choco Tacos; that was my go-to at ice cream trucks
I used to beat my kids to the trucks when they appeared, not since those greedy bastards took away my Choco Taco tho 😔
It's truly a stroke of brilliance, and possibly still the best ice cream conveyance method.

I mean yeah normally I'd agree with you but progress was still going in kind of the right direction, albiet slowly then.
We've spent some years backsliding now, and honestly I do miss the part where things felt like they where getting better, not worse.

I have good news! They won't see 30 years.

I wanna go back!!
Look up local retro gatherings, you can kinda go back in that sense, at least

Must be 90's, no one suggesting going to a doctor after a clearly heavy hit on the head.
...who could afford to? healthcare always been the realm of the rich in the land of the free
Are those soap shoes?
God I miss those! Strolling down the street, quickly stutter run up to that sweet ledge and bust a random 6 foot frontside, continue strolling down the street…
Where's Bonzai Buddy when you need him?
Also, 25 browser bookmark bars!
I miss when the spyware told funny jokes :(

happy cake day!
Maximum Derick.
What’s the middle kid’s shirt? That’s the only one I’m drawing a blank on.
Cradle of Filth
Try track 4 — "Coffin Fodder". It sounds horrible but it's actually quite beautiful.
it was days like that that made me glad I had the Filth to come home to
Bobcat Goldthwait's friends trying to set up a blind date
I'm going to take a wild guess and say Ozzfest 1999.
No. I don’t want jeans that soak up water from puddles in the rain.
Then get the jean shorts instead dumdum
You are a wizard.
"And that was Smashmouth! Now, give it up for Limp Bizkit!"

Black, Black, Black, Black number wo-o-one! What a track.
Ok boomer
How young do you think boomers are?
boomer is a state of mind now
Boomer is a specific generation.
What we're seeing here is the first generation to go from childhood to elders with internet access/fluency all the way.
It is more of a way of thinking than a generation. The phrase "ok boomer" doesn't refer to just boomers
Ok boomer
Exactly
He's right, you old people having nostalgia for thirty years ago.
