I left Adelaide almost 11 years ago to come back here. No real plan.
After fucking around on the street for about 2 months, I found a place to live in a share house with an alcoholic who did more for me than my own family.
I stayed there for a year. When I first rocked up I slept on a mattress on the floor wearing all my clothes because there was a gap between my wall and the world at large so it was quite cold.
This is the place.
It's renovated now. I haven't been back here since I moved out. I walked in gaunt, covered in track marks and walked out with an office job and a plan to study IT.
I enjoyed climbing as a youth, as most of us do. I was alone at a park and decided to climb to the top bar of a swing set, make my way to the chains holding the swing seat, and shimmy back down the chain. Brilliant.
Except, the black plastic seats are held to the chain with a type of โsโ shaped hook.
When I slid down the chain, that hook embedded itself into my nether region and I ended up sort of hanging there; impaled..
Oh shit. Adrenaline kicked in and I had to climb back up the chain to un-hook myself.
I knew something was seriously wrong but I was alone and proceeded to walk home while holding my bike. There was no way I was going to sit on a bike seat and ride.
Mum freaked out (and rightly so) and drove me to hospital where I received several stitches. No permanent damage, but the story continues to make people sick in the stomach many years later ๐
Hey everyone, just checking over there and it looks like Melbourne cops have joined Sydney cops and started getting around with sniffer dogs at train stations. So, if you consume restricted drugs, be sure to carry a copy of your prescription (the sticker on the packet) to avoid any legal hassles. If you consume illegal drugs, it might be worth avoiding public transport all together. Someone mentioned that a sniffer dog detecting counts as reasonable suspicion for a stop-n-search. I can make my dog indicate things with the tiniest clicks of my tongue.
Candor has a $19 prescription process at the moment. CANDID19 is the code. My last prescription I wasn't that impressed with but I wanted the piece of paper. That was a few years ago so I think it's time to do it again.
I'm with Medicann, a Perth-based clinic. They're all about patient outcomes, so they ask about my mental health and physical health, basically a GP check up, plus the script. It's a wholesome experience and they really make me feel like they actually care about my health and wellbeing.
Oh I am firmly in camp #FUCK_METH_HEADS. I've walked away from three groups of druggie friends over the years as they've turned to meth. If the police dog had a sign on it's harness saying "Meth detector" I'd put in for the gofundme.
when I was struggling I would buy a few big $1 bags of vegies, cheap rice from the Asian market, cheapest mince , a dozen eggs and curry pastes , supermarket bread , home brand cheese, etc,
Shopping done, banh mi acquired. Time to pour out a cold one and chill for the balance of the day.
By the way, I was recently gifted a dressmaker's dummy - but its in medium/large size, and I'm only a small/medium. It's a Singer 151 if you're interested. Does anyone care to swap for a Singer 150 or equivalent? Full working order. If no-one wants it, I'll probably dress it up provocatively and put it where it can be seen through the front windows. Heh heh.
Me too. Sometimes if I'm lucky I can put on one of those satin eye masks and go back to sleep, but the local magpie clan warbling in the morning sometimes put a stop to that idea!
Yes what everyone else said. I'll just add this: Once they're fried on one side, add 1/4 cup of cold water and turn it right down to simmer with a lid on. When the water has evaporated they are ready.
I know the advice from everyone is the correct way. An alternative (wrong way) that I use, is popping them in a bamboo steamer, then once they are cooked, I add a bit of oil to a pan and crisp them up at the end.
Went to the gym to reset myself after yesterday's failure of a workout. Spent more time in the massage chair than anything, but hey, I went and it was still better than yesterdays!
had a professional moist man come out and we're good, even with all this humidity. yaay.
In other news, scammers are calling again after a wonderful christmas hiatus, so the first entry on this page is a wonderful way to fuck with them if you're so inclined
I picked another snow pea, the first zucchini is looking good, I will pick it tomorrow. The pumpkin vine has produced its first (male) flower and the button squash has a few female flowers, but I think I'll probaby need to hand pollinate them, I just need to get the timing right.
Cherry tomatoes are great, and tend to self seed easily. I had a row in my previous house that were grown from seeds in a supermarket mixed punnet, a couple of my plants this year are their descendants.
My plants have only just started flowering, so I envy you having fruit starting.
It's really only one lil bunch that has started fruiting. The rest of the plant is just flowering now. So weird. I was worried for a while it was only going to be this one bunch!
I think everything is a bit delayed this year, spring was very wet and cool so I think a lot of people have found the garden has been growing a bit strangely this year.
A random remark about macrame has reminded me of the existence of Squashed Pickled People. What other disturbing old craft trends to you recall?
Toilet dollies, bread people, dead cat doorstops etc......
Dolly Varden telephone covers have always given me the cold grues. I mean, why? Soap carving is still around on tiktok - again, why? Unless you are trying to construct your own laundry deterrent.
Soap carving is not too bad. But I remember people sticking pictures onto soap and varnishing them, or glueing on lace and fake flowers and things like that. At least carved soap is still useable.
Hmm. Iโm tired of Minecraft so downloaded WoW for some highly recommended fishing on thereโฆ but the game is so massive it fills my hard drive even after deleting stuff and constantly makes me delete more with every update. It constantly crashes. And I have no intention of subbing. Might uninstall because it is just so bloated.
Are there any free to play games you recommend? Iโm not too into battle royales, mid at shooters, allergic to kids. Usually prefer single player or MMOs. Bonus if it isnโt a really toxic environment and probably needs to run on a potato
I've been playing the demo of a game on Steam, called Nova Roma. It's a city builder where you help Romans who escaped Rome, make a New Rome lol. Gotta build temples to the various gods for bonuses, theres aqueducts, water towers, and you can build a dam as well.
I think there is also a demo from an Aussie dev for a game called Pie in the Sky. Think of the Tony Hawk games on PS1 or 2, but instead of a skateboard you are a Magpie ๐ there's collectables, and tasks like "swoop X number of people" ๐ I just checked, the demo is still available and the game released in 2 days lol.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know, I just woke up lol
I don't know much about it but I got an email from Internet Archive this morning that said in part:
"Did you know that the Internet Archive features an emulator that allows you to play your favorite vintage software directly on archive.org? For example, you can enjoy a series of crossword puzzles from The New York Times, complete with the original interface and design from 1992."
Crosswords might not interest you but you can investigate what other resources are available. I don't know how to feel about 1992 being vintage though ๐ ๐ต๐ผ
I've been playing the original DK since 1994. Each level is self contained so you can use that for time management, and honestly organisation and planning comes organically with the game
I got a lift today so was able to get a tube of flea and worm drops, also got to Bunnings and bought some shadecloth and pinch clamps. Iโll have to wait until someone is with me though to put it up.
If this helps anyone - I mentioned that I needed to buy for a stray so was unsure of the exact weight, and was told that every shop (not sure if itโs in general or only Petstock) has recently expired flea and worm treatments that theyโll give for free.
::: spoiler spoiler
I was too embarrassed to take freebies and needed something with a specific wide weight range so I straight up bought the single Advocate for $30 (oof). But if youโre ever in a tight spot where you might not be able to afford treatment you can ask for the stuff thatโs just expired.
Unfortunately they didnโt have the generic one in stock. But yeah. The Aristopet for cats over 4kg is $20 for a 3 pack (3 months worth) so Iโll add it to the next delivery. And I double checked that it was safe to use. The Purina brand ($19 x 1) however wasnโt recommended. And of course I would never risk supermarket brand flea medicine.
:::
Edit: Iโm sillyโฆ Iโm using a new spot on for Melbcat now that might be a bit high for this catโs weight, but had a single tube of the old one left. If Iโd remembered in time I could have just used that.
Sky was very pretty this evening. It was very pretty this morning too. I really like having this open view of the sky where I am at the moment, I wish I could afford something with this sort of view permanently.
Thatโs weird. My bad knee was painfully clicking as I walked which is a thing, but my hip and ankle now hurt as well and the pain has spread up my lower leg.
Also thereโs a new mutated flu strain causing an early season and easier transmission so Iโm going to have to get a flu shot
The sound design on some old games is so good. Rare knew you'd be collecting things hundreds of times over in Banjo Kazooie so they made the sound of everything so good. They'd only have space for one sound for each item so it needs to be good

Itโs funny you mention that because I got really into piercings in the 90โs. and had jewelry EVERYWHERE on my body.

According to the medical reports I woke up "combative" before that.
WRAIN! Just a little bit. Maybe more to come I hope.
Only a few drops here. Evaporated as soon as they hit the ground :(
Thankfully watering sys. doin' the heavy lifting.
Seriously below average rain here inner east for the last year.

What a bunch of bullshit.

One of the reasons I love the market is that I can, if I don't buy the extra nice things as well, feed myself for a week for about $30

I have lost my glasses... this is not ideal
Edit: found them under the bed (despite being a bit handicapped by not having glasses to see). Now to start the day
argh, i tried to fry the steamed gyoza and they stuck to everything
time to look up YTs on how to cook
I fry them in a pan with oil and water and a lid to keep the steam in. Friess the bottom and steams the top.
Yea the witch is right.
Fry.. then put water in the pan, lid on and steam then lid off for a little bit to crisp.
I generally fry from frozen as it gives you more time to not bugger it up :)

Soap carving is not too bad. But I remember people sticking pictures onto soap and varnishing them, or glueing on lace and fake flowers and things like that. At least carved soap is still useable.
I had to look that up
Finger knitting, hobby text, decorating cane jewellery boxes with lace & ribbon, potpourri, bunny face washers, soap decorating.
I don't think most of those are disturbing, but had forgot bunny washers!
They're all utterly useless. Spending time making them is disturbing to me.
Potpourri is nice as an air freshener. But I do reckon you have to use your own roses (and I don't have any).
Useless and dust collecting.
I had some fantastic rugs made out of crochet finger knitting
I've never heard of that. That is interesting.
I'll see if I can find a pic. Will involve bonus terrifying appliquรฉ tracksuit top
Oooo. I'd love to see your horrors.
