Internet Outage... on mobile data right now... So... how has your internet been, and do you have "backup internet" options if your primary goes down? What do you do if you lose it completely?

I mean I guess... most people don't wake up this early to browse the internet, so... yeah... it's not exactly affecting too many people... lol

but damn, I just realized how bad my internet addiction is... this kinda cause me a bit of anxiety

idk why I wake up at 5am... aaand... now its 6am...

sleep schedule is fucked...

I really need a drivers license so I can go places independently

anyways... how's life

feel free to just ramble your thoughts on where you're at in life...

Edit: Update

Estimated outage... 8 more hours... lmfao

Good thing I have unlimited mobile data anyways

Antenna internet like Starlink's as a backup might be a good idea if you ever need. Otherwise, as you mentioned in a comment, better indeed to stockpile on fully offline content and ensure you can use them if come the need. Personally, I have an internet that goes faulty occasionally and obsession with preservation saved me more than a few times.

I honestly don't try to use the internet as much anymore for entertainment. I use Lemmy for news though since links are available often. I play games on my Switch or card games with others for entertainment.

I didn't notice any loss on my internet. (Idk if it's carrier specific) I am trying to build a mesh network for communications if the mobile networks go down. I.E meshtastic, meshcore, bitchat. So that's honestly my plan, I download all my music for things like these.

I do wish you luck on getting your drivers license, I appreciate mine. I also do recommend looking into E-Bikes for the time being if you're able to get one and ride it in your area.

When my internet goes down, I usually just pull out my book and start reading.

Um... yea... there's only a bunch of children's books that the library gave out for free when we were in Brooklyn, I don't even have any like... actual adult books lol

I mean, ever since I found out there's "free" 😏 books online, I never even have the desire to visit a library anymore.

I better start download .epubs and make sure my power banks are charged

A lot of libraries have ebooks now, so you can still support libraries while reading books for free. Libby is the major one, but there is also CloudLibrary which one of my local library uses. There are even comic books and graphic novels available.

There is also a program called Little Free Library where people give and drop off books in cubbies to borrow. There are probably quite a few around you if you are in Brooklyn. Some of the ones near me even stock board games and puzzles for people to use. https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/

Books, especially ones written by smaller and indie authors, are something I don’t personally like pirating because there are so many legit options to access books for free. And I’m a big advocate of supporting libraries in any way possible.

I have a work phone with a shitload of data that I need to go online wherever I am, when I'm on call.
So if the internet cuts out, I can just open a mobile hotspot.
When I'm at home, my access point will connect to it and repeat it with my regular Wifi SSID.

I've considered a backup circuit at home since it's used for work.

But it rarely drops, and we have cell on 3 different vendors, so liklihood of all other failing is low.

You reached the end
