Am I an adult now??? Still have no idea what I'm doing.

4

Gonna take the dog for the arvo walk and by walk I mean take him out to the front porch where he'll stare at me with the "What the fuck?!" look but at least he'll stop with the "where's my fuckin walk" looks I'm getting now.

EDIT: I took him out when going to the car for some tools, he absolutely stayed on the porch with a strong "nu-uh" vibe about him. I took the tools through the side gate to the shed and he still wouldn't leave the porch to run around the side and come back in that way. So I went an got him and brought him back into the AC, he had a big drink on the way back. Outside in the shade for under five minutes

Could possibly be a christian soul who is all about loving your neighbour and forgiving sins against him. Unlikely, but possible. Or just a really really nice person.

4

thats a great idea! I should get a spray bottle for next time.

my strat has been to close all windows and blinds to the world & have regular cold showers. plus frozen grapes.

4

I just assumed you all died, it's good to hear that at least one of you is still alive. I don't do well with heat, if I didn't have AC I'd either be camped out in the shower running cool water over myself or on the floor crying. I wish I was more like Miss Meow, who is currently voluntarily outside.

8

I used to survive by wringing out a shirt in water and putting it on, and having icy poles or frozen drinks

4

Well that sucks. Several houses in Belgrave including mine have been without power since 18:30. Would have been good to have aircon this evening.

On the positive side I'm feeling virtuous for having recently run up the generators, checked the oil, topped up the petrol, etc. So we have a fridge / freezer and, if we still have no power tomorrow, will still be able to work.

10

Glad i decided not to head back to melbs. Currently 24 here in queenscliff. Got to about 40-ish but felt a lot cooler next to the ocean.

The WSW / soon to be SSW is bringing a lot of smoke from the otways though.

6

The wind has increased in my hood, maybe has dropped a couple degrees but still very hot. I think itโ€™s going to be a gradual cooldown tonight.

4

I have seen a few posts from just_kitten recently at the other place.

8

Duenan left after TinyBreak did iirc. They still post on the other place regularly. Same with Baku.

5

;-;

Edit: We seem to have lost a lot of people since this started, leaving a core group of regulars.

Thereโ€™s probably more activity in the other place but I havenโ€™t gone back because I donโ€™t recognise many people there and may no longer fit.

As well as the whole โ€˜owner emulating you know whoโ€™ thing.

5

I did notice that just_kitten was gone, I havenโ€™t heard from Duenan either

Good luck everyone!

I'm changing the strays water every couple of hours. Theres shady spots where they live. I've put ice in the bowls to help hopefully.

Am also freezing some water bottles for them to lay next to if required

9
SaneMartiganreply
aussie.zone

I just topped off my strays water and food. Used the last sachets of food, went and got some more from Savemore, went back to drop them off and it'd been eaten. Caught a glimpse of the cat. Savemore also had 3/$5 Linda McCartney vege snags which is a fuckin bargain.

7

Nice work man!

I put out the dry food and it's been gobbled up real quick.

I bought a bag of ice and put it in a shady spot near where my live. Hopefully they see it and figure out the ground will be cool near it.

3

I have cheap litter boxes / pans under the trees during summer, birds are going apeshit. Also stealing all my appls and pears.

I had the brilliant idea tonight when filling the water tray for animals to put the timer on and set it to a slow trickle. That'll keep it topped up and I know some animals are more likely to drink from running water than still

9
melbaboutownreply
aussie.zone

Thatโ€™s genius. It would be so cool to have a solar powered water fountain recycling a tank of clean water (with a filter to sieve out mosquito larvae and kill them).

Replacing the water and cleaning the fountain would be a job though.

I did the slow release thing with blocks of ice before but now just fill an automatic water dispenser sold for pets

4

Running water should be enough to stop mosquitoes but a filter would be great for everything else that gets caught in there. I think I'll do the dribble timer next hot day we have too

3

Thank god this gig tonight is at the Croxton. It's close to home and has decent parking. Just as long as the air conditioner works well in there

Vic emergency map has a cool new feature - the little red triangle with the warning "evacuate immediately" now has the red triangle and a little running man blinking on and off. Really stands out. Check it out at the Otways fires.

Aaaand it looks like most of the Otways are going up in smoke rn.

8
Rusty Ravenreply
aussie.zone

You should have a look at bushfire.io it includes the information from the Vic Emergency app, and also has overlays with the wind speed/direction, satellite detected hot spots which show where the fire is actively burning, and where the fire fighting aircraft are. It's really interesting and I presume it takes a bit of pressure off the Vic Emergency app and helps stop it getting overloaded.

I just had an iced coffee myself. I contemplated doing some washing, but there is no way I'm going outside to hang it in this heat, you are much braver than I am.

4

Your planning was better than mine, I needed a sit down after I hung it and after I collected it! Even 10min is too much outside for today. I ventured out just now again to refresh the birdbath, and now Iโ€™m not leaving my aircon until the cool change comes.

The girlfriend has put out a box of clothes to be donated. Most of the things I want to get rid of are things she got me from an op shop previously, so I found some things to sacrifice to cover them up.

Sometimes I think she wants me to dress like a lesbian that went to the op shop to dress like peak 90s JTT, but these clothes are just cheap and nasty. I'll wear the world's ugliest pattern if the fabric is nice but these aren't op shop gold, it's the other 99%.

6
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

the thing with op shop clothes is they are so cheap you should expect to cull those that don't work out, even if you throw out more than half of them you still save money and have something a bit individual

I used to buy Miss Seagoon a lot of new clothes and accessories, I always believed it's up to her what she does with her own possessions, she would give a lot away to friends and I did not mind at all.

3
tombruzzoreply
aussie.zone

I guess I'm worried she might be upset since they were kind of gotten like gifts or she thinks I'll look good in them. At least they're cheap but there's a reason they were at the op shop

4

once she gives them to you they are yours to do with as you wish, they are yours

and surely she must know you are different people with individual tastes? It's not an insult if someone doesn't like what you bought them.

2
SaneMartiganreply

I used to op-shop as a hobby and would grab anything super nice and well priced then find a home for it later on. One friends birthday party I turned up with a dozen very nice mens shirts (too small for me) and handed them out to all the lads.

3

This is the way to do it. It takes more time to get the good stuff but I think there's little point otherwise

My WWII grandmother passed on her appreciation of corned beef sandwiches to me. Even though I've mostly stopped eating meat I still feel like reaching for it in Aldi. My other gran gave me a taste for Fray Bentos pies, which are their own culinary abomination.

5

I used to love corned beef when I could eat it but I tried the tinned one from Aldi many years back and it wasnโ€™t very good. A lot of gloopiness and connective tissue, not very tasty, kind of reminded me of how dog food looks and smells.

Iโ€™d eat it if I was starving (and able to digest meat) but it fell a bit below even my low standards :(

I wouldnโ€™t be above one of the Frays pies though, they just look like tinned pot pies

3

Never had that. I used to like putting nutritional yeast on hot buttered toast.

Otherwise maybe try tiger toast (cut slices of cheese over Vegemite toast to make stripes). Or melting cheese over the mustard under the grill, mustard goes great with cheesy things.

4

update: When questioned on how he pulled up this morning His Lordship's response was a seesawing hand motion. Gym was skipped.

Just chatting about journaling.

::: spoiler spoiler I absolutely adore my diary from last year, it's filled with stickers and washi tape and random colours where I've felt like it, along with noting all of the things I did like dinners out and drives we went on or even just things like the day Boyo lost his sunnies in the bay. It helps that it was a Kikki K creativity diary and while I didn't utilise it to its full extent, it did inspire me with some of the prompts. I'm sad they didn't do another one this year.

Lately I've been getting into junk journaling, but it's felt a little harder because I feel like I want it always to be perfect, but I don't know what that perfect is. I keep reminding myself that no one is ever going to see it unless I choose to show them.

Anyway, I've got it into my head that I want one of those little instax polaroid printer so I can print little pictures to add to my diary and journal, think I'm going to go and buy one after work. :::
