You had to say crispy... now all I can think of is pulling out my planer, taking a slice, and tossing it into the deep fryer just to see what forbidden flavors exist.

Have you ever microwaved a piece of wood to force dry? I have and man - what a smell... I can remember it even now.

Not impossible, but I use bursts of about 30s max, it doesn't even get overly hot. Otherwise, something even scarier can happen - it may case harden 😮. Jokes aside, I've only done it for very specific occasions, perhaps a few times in my whole life. I'd invest in a kiln or just buy dry lumber to start with.

Fine planer slices like that trigger some weird monkey brain reward pathway. I just wanna shave a board down to nothing to have all the plane ribbons.

I have a trash bag full. I can get you more if you want to jump into a pile like autumn leaves.

Yeah trying to give them away to someone who can use them

If you combost this would be a great thing to mix into the pile. Home compost tends to be nitrogen heavy and having a nice source of carbon will help the pile cook faster.

Get or make a spill plane. It produces these tightly curled yet long shavings that form kind of a little stick. They're intended to transfer fire from one place to another, like lighting candles, stoves etc. from an existing fire source, kind of like one of those long matches, but without the match head.

The most visible piece isn't technically joinery, but cutouts for my vise grip. Though the boards on the side are legs and stretchers for the workbench, all half laps. Just started that glue up last night

Beautiful

Bought a hand plane, sharpened it, it's... Fine, but bites way too deep.

Meaning it rips material out? Or the depth of cut is just too deep?

2

Adjusting the depth of cut is kind of a constant thing. I adjust multiple times per board depending on how much I want to take off. It takes some practice to figure out how to deal with slop. If there's no depth wheel, it's even more tricky with tapping

I'm glad there's lumber in the background because at first I thought this was a condom and that provided the necessary context for me to realize what I was seeing.

You reached the end
