I have done heaps over the last few days. Thrown out so much stuff. I think I might make a nice cold drink, chillax and look at some pretty lights as soon as I get off the couch and have a shower. Any minute now.......but cricket....GET UP...

Update: I have showered and now my houseboy is making me a vodka & lemon.

Someone at home dropped off some beer and this yuzu and vodka drink. I had one of each because I rode to work and I've probably sweated most of it out on the way home

7

I'm going crazy for yuzu drinks at the moment, with vodka is just an added bonus!! That's an awesome gift!

completely off grid electricity-wise since 7am. Solar currently producing 7kW, 4.6 of which is feeding the grid. So far today: 32kWh.

God I love summer.

Don't let perfection get in the way of progress- 20/30 years of minimising carbon production is well worth it.

Wow you have a great system - must be 10kw size? Mineโ€™s at 13kwh for the day so far, 6.7 system size. Iโ€™ve only had solar for a few months but well worth the investment.

3

Yeah we went for the highest number of panels our roof could support. All of them. Cover it!! Cost us 9k after rebates, zero regrets.

Here's a photo from up the hill during the new ride. It's pretty nice this can be part of my regular commute to work:

::: spoiler View :::

Going over the hill really tuckers the bike out though. I had it go flat on me during a ride for the first time today, well within range for the battery normally. I'll need to watch the charge more of I go this way.

That is nice. I have a few nice views on my way to work but it is much harder to appreciate them when you are whizzing past in the car.

4

It's kind of the same on the bike. This is what I see before I drop down a road that gets me up to 40km/hr. You do feel more in touch with things though, easing down the dirt path seeing kangaroos and rabbits

I feel like there's a loophole with international licenses.

Some people should not be driving, let alone ubers.

9
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

yeah, we trust that other countries have reliable licensing like we do

there should be some kind of test

The first time I drove after getting my Ps was in Canada in a brand new 50k rental car, wrong side of the road through mountainous terrain ๐Ÿ™ƒ (I should not have been allowed to do that)

5

I made a late addition to the menu for the next couple of days: apricot sorbet in progress.

9

Oooh, good idea. Ice cream bowl attachment is in the freezer.

Mmmm, dog health anxiety. He's always had a wonky back right leg but with three spares it's never been to much of an issue. Now his front left leg seems to be giving him bother. He didn't want to go walkies morning or evening today. I'll try again when it gets cooler in case it's the heat but maybe he needs a few days rest. I did some basic diagnostics like I would a human and couldn't elicit any response while playing with his leg, its joints and the muscles. I had a good look through his beans incase there was a bindi or splinter in there but nothing. Maybe he just can't be bothered. He seems happy enough and is playing fetch so I'm not too concerned at this stage.

Right there with you. Itโ€™s worrying when they donโ€™t seem themselves.

Is he getting older? Melbcat gets monthly Solensia for arthritis

7
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

Treatment for arthritis in pets is pretty good now, Allie had those once a month steroid injections and they worked miracles.

7

That's good to know. He's got a vax booster appointment coming up. Did they give you the injection to do at home or would I need to start seeing the vet every month?

Thanks, I gave him a gentle myotherapy fondle and couldn't get pain or withdrawal reactions. When he hurt his quad/hamstring a few years ago I was massaging it and he was pretty clear about what was and wasn't acceptable.

2
aussie.zone

If his heartrate and respiratory rate are normal*, then I'd say it's just the weather. Animals can get lazy when it's warm. If his behaviour doesn't return to normal when the weather is cooler then I'd look further into it.

*You'd have to look up the normal hr and RR for your breed of dog, as it varies between size and breed, and I'd imagine he'd let you rest your head on him to hear his heart, or take it from his femoral artery near his groin :)

2

He's currently snoring lightly next to me in bed. I did give him some medicinal pecorino.

3
aussie.zone

Good timing moving all that mulch over the last few weeks. Should take the sting out over the next few days.

Feel for local caravan park folks though. Lucky the sea is right next door.

8

Hopefully the sea breeze kicks in for them overnight. Next day for down here is only 25c so they're probably in luck.

5
aussie.zone

What an awesome after dinner walk down at the little beach.

The tide was out so I checked the rock pools along the sea wall. Success!! Last year there were two neon green sea anemones, this year there are two big colonies with maybe two dozen anemones in total. ๐Ÿ˜Š I took pics.

7

So cool!!! Thanks for sharing! We had a pre dinner swim and it was glorious out there!

I now have a meat box and a fruit & veg box scheduled to be delivered on Friday. That'll teach Coles to keep missing things from my orders!

7

It'd have to be better quality you'd think ๐Ÿค” There's a povvo Coles and an average Coles near me.. the povvo Coles has rubbish meat and the average Coles is only marginally better. The Woolies near me has meat so overpriced that I have been known to laugh out loud at the audacity. Wouldn't mind if the farmer was getting a higher percentage of the money but we all know that isn't happening.

There is an insane madman outside jogging. In this heat! At least he has the sense to leave his dogs behind, I saw him jogging with them yesterday. But that also means he knows it's too hot to be out and has chosen to go jogging anyway.

7

Last time it was 40ish degrees I had to keep an appointment and, while I waited for the bus, a man went past me on an escooter with long black track pants and a long sleeved black hoodie with the hood up

1

Beach was a bit seaweedy but the water temp was perfect. I am grateful to past me for putting all my stuff back in the beach bag (after it dried) after my last trip. Easy to grab and take to the office this morning for sneaky after work dip.

Congrats to @[email protected] for the weekly challenge on PoGo - you got me by 1!! I was so determined to help get the team across the line this week, thank you for inviting me to your party!!

Yay! Glad to add you. Not expecting to do much in the next few days though!

::: spoiler Worrying, cat health

Melbcat has been really fussy yesterday and last night. Iโ€™m worried. Iโ€™m doing my best for her but this uti isnโ€™t curable. Iโ€™m worried that is what might eventually take her to the rainbow bridge. :::

::: spoiler Big Hot

Also no idea if Iโ€™m prepared for the big hot. Due to an exhaustion splat I havenโ€™t put out extra water, pulled plants inside, or made the ice cubes I was going to. Iโ€™ll also have to go collect more of Melbcatโ€™s meds today (should have done it yesterday). Last night the aircon didnโ€™t seem to be blowing much cool air.

I did shut blinds and pull blockout curtains across though. I should have tin foiled the biggest window as a barrier against heat. I also froze water in empty plastic cracker trays to make big ice blocks

:::

Edit: Watered plants and animals. All of that is done now except foiling the windows. I can do that tonight. However I did manage to smack my head again on the open freezer door. Well done ๐Ÿซฉ

6

"However I did manage to smack my head again on the open freezer door."

The amount of times I do this is puts me in some kind of stoopid category, I'm sure of it. That and the ๐Ÿคฌ rangehood!

I briefly went outside to enjoy a bit of sunshine, but this cold has really got me. The bright light made my headache worse. Been coughing all day and not even pseudoephedrine has brought relief to my runny nose. Boo to summer viruses. They can get in the bin.

6
aussie.zone

Forced physical inactivity and limits are driving me nuts. At the very least Iโ€™d like to go back to baking. Just to be able to fucking do something. Iโ€™ve been so stressed since I hit my head

Lots of ways to adapt activities, no need to mentally suffer as well as physically. Could you use a box mix cake? Premade cookie dough? Lemonade scones are dead easy, few ingredients and very little physical effort.

6

I actually wanted to skill up on scratch cooking like pastry and maybe something like pelmeni. Those would keep me occupied.

Iโ€™m not sure if I can eat them though

Packidge! My Baphomet suncatcher has arrived. Splendid day to find the best glinty spot for it tomorrow. Holographic not glass so I don't think I can accidentally set the stairs on fire...

Furbaby has been good today, there was some crying but sheโ€™s been eating a lot and having a wash. Iโ€™m wondering if sheโ€™s just learned crying gets her spoiled.
