Hot Take;

You don't vote for a dem soc with the expectation that they are infallible or going to stick 100% to their word.

You vote for the dem soc because the alternatives (neo-liberals and fascists) are objectively worse by every metric.

Mamdani can backtrack on 75% of what he said and still be the most progressive mayor in NYC history.

One shouldn't bitch and moan against those who supported him for supporting what he promised. Hold Mamdani accountable for his backtracking and failures and try for someone comparatively more progressive next time. Of one doesn't pop up, keep with Mamdani until another pops up or he can't run anymore.

Again, it's not because Mamdani is amazing, but because the others are worse.

Yet they'll freely admit the overton window is shifting right. They've seen firsthand that red voters showing up and voting for their shitbag, even if they aren't promising to completely dismantle every institution they can like theyd want. Meanwhile, if we dont have a leftist messiah they'd rather stay home and bitch online.

One of these strategies has shown to work and it isnt theirs.

I can stay at home, bitch online, and vote all at the same time. Mail in voting is great! I never miss an election since my ballot is mailed to me, and I have a month to find out who these people are.

And because of the points you're responding to, you very well may lose the right to do that.

California is more likely to leave the union than get rid of mail in voting. We've been doing it since before The Civil War.

4

I get it, I'm on your right coast counterpart in Boston. California is a top 10 economy globally in size, even measured against the likes of nations like France. So it objectively has the capital to do it.

But every time I hear this, it seems like its lost on them that you absolutely will not be allowed to leave peacefully, at least if its under this administration. That is certainly an option, but you guys would be a nation with 0 military on day 1 unless you tried to nationalize military assets and personnel already in the armed forces. Hell, they'd probably start with calling all military personnel choosing to defect deserters, which they can execute you for, and invade you on those grounds alone.

You guys can definitely leave, but if the US decides to stop ot by force, they're either going to roll over you like the German blitzkrieg of Poland, or you're going to descend into years of a brutally violent insurgency.

To be clear too - I'm absolutely on your side. New England has rumblings of trying to secede too, but we'd face the exact same problem as you guys (we're also not nearly as much as a global economic powerhouse like California, so we'd also have further issues you guys would not).

Do these people expect the mayor of NYC to forcefully change the path of the entire nation overnight..?

Like he exists within the system we all hate. He is probably doing shit that he hates doing because there is another way to do the job. By virtue of him being a politician in this system, he has already surrendered some amount of his respectability and believability.

What do you expect to happen? Genuinely. Do you expect instant revolution?

ITT: people not understanding that the mayor of NYC does not have much influence over Israel…

I’m almost convinced the single issue voters are a psyop

15

Ah yes, leftists letting perfect be the enemy of good and turning on someone they elected before he even takes office

Iconic

59

Don't also have discount non leftist bag faith actors pretending to be left to sew discord

He literally isn’t even in office yet. You’re shitting the bed over things that have bed happened yet.

And your third link there just makes you look foolish

“I may not know if they’re a Zionist because I’m going to be asking them questions related to their jobs” is part of why people voted for the guy

15

Those are already existing actions and decisions...

And your second link there just makes you look foolish

I'm just an international leftist who is in solidarity and in critical support of Cuba, if that is "look[s] foolish" to you, you might be in the wrong com LMAO

Twas a typo, I was referring to the third. I didn’t think the second was worth acknowledging because again, this is mayor of NYC

His voters are concerned about what he will do in NYC

7

Twas a typo

Fair

I was referring to the third

Of course it matters because he build part of his campaign around being in solidarity with Palestine and actually being opposed to Zionazism...

It's just very symbolic of succdems/demsocs like him to immediately backpedal once farming all those votes and crowdfunding money. 🙃

5

I dont mind anything you say or said, you edited your comments for my bitchey self who likes to nitpick things. I like you.

3

Lol right and shits gonna get worse when he's in office and he does something less than perfect or change doesn't happen day 1

It's called playing politics trying to succeed during a goddamn fascist regime. If we're not going to grab our fucking guns then this is the way we have to progress. It's stupid and it's wrong but the fact of the matter is there is stupid and wrong people who vote. We shouldn't be like crabs in a bucket. Let's let the most progressive mayor we've ever elected in US history try to actually do something before we start jumping in criticizing him from all sides of the political spectrum.

Nice ban evasion account, glad to see you're just as illiterate on your last one that got banned for being a piece of shit.

4

Hmmm. Thanks for the detailed info.

This is concerning but I still want to see where things land once he is in office before making a judgment.

Every time you post a meme like this you should make yourself go and do 8 hours of hyperlocal political engagement as penance. Like a swear jar.

21

You mean one where the image is meaningless unless you are already familiar with the context?

1

Oh noes. A politician be like a politician.

How long before the hopium wore off and this was obvious again?

Enlighten me. What news are you referring to? He's literally not mayor yet, and all I've seen is that he's appointed Lina Khan and Ms. Rachel to his inauguration committee.

TL;DR from dogbert https://lemmy.zip/comment/23596122:

I think people were expecting him to not protect the super-zio NYPD commissioner. The switch up from “I will arrest Netanyahu” to coddling Zionists over the past couple months is pretty striking. Not sure why Zohran defenders are playing dumb about this.

Absolutely nobody thought a soc-dem mayoral candidate would be a revolutionary (except perhaps the liberals still defending him).

My comment:

If voting changed anything [systematically] it would be illegal

Just a few examples

Mamdani Suddenly Can't Give a Straight Answer On His NYPD Promises

After NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch agreed to work in his administration, the mayor-elect has gotten cagey on disbanding the SRG, scrapping the gang database, and giving the CCRB the final say in police discipline.

TBF, we probably should have seen this coming when Mamdani tweeted protest voting during the 2024 elections.
