You don't lose weight taking steps. This is well established. I can readily put on weight taking 20,000 steps per day.

You lose weight in the kitchen. Eat less. Eat healthier food. If the ingredients list on the packet has lots of numbers and not stuff you'd find in your pantry, don't eat very much of it.

Then take 10,000 steps.

Once was at a friend's place for dinner. The whole family was rotund. Fine folks!

Dinner comes around, and their plates were HUGE. Like serving plate size, for a dinner plate. Portions to match the plate.

Just an odd example of the 'stuff fills the space you allot it' phenomena when you think about it, but maybe something to consider if you're aiming to lose weight.

This is well-known! It's why buffets give out small plates. Sure, you can go back as many times as you want, but people will tend to go back relatively few times, and overall eat less food if an individual plate holds less.

I always loved spag bol from buffets, i know its the cheapest spag bol, and its probably the cheapest meal in the buffet, but that, with some garlic bread! Just, the best!

I like the spag bol I make myself so much better than anything I've ever had in a restaurant. It's one of a fairly small number of meals I will actively avoid in restaurants purely because of how much better I can do it at home.

Though buffets might actually be better for this particular food than a la carte restaurants.

Can't remember ever having Spag bol in a real restaurant, theres always something else that catches my eye, that, like you say, i can't make at home as easily.

My self loathing about weight hit a critical point at the start of the year.

My dietician suggested logging everything in an app. That really opened my eyes to just how much I was failing to control portion sizes and over snacking.

Have dropped ~20 kg since. Would like to shed a little more but it's slowed way down.

Have been doing consistent exercise but diet is doing 90% of the work
