OK folks of the DT. Xmas day celebration for 'orphans' at my place is a go mission. Please DM me by end of tomorrow for address and public transport info if you are wanting to come.
I have secure bike parking, and there's plenty of street parking available. General area is Thornbury.
Timing is 2 pm to 5 pm approx - this is a bit flexible.
Its come as you are, and if convenient bring a plate of something snackish to share. I'm doing chips & dips and given the likely weather there will be a pot of soup. BYO grog. I'll have soft drinks and tea and coffee available.
PS: an orphan for the purpose of this event is someone who doesn't have another event planned for the day, plus trustworthy significant others.
This is so wonderful. Iโm at partners family Xmas day, but appreciate the offer very much, because if it werenโt for that would be a Xmas orphan! I hope you all have a very nice afternoon!
Ham and salad sandwich for lunch was absolutely delicious. I'm probably still in the honeymoon phase with salads and the love will wear off as summer drags on, but after a toastie-filled winter a salad sandwich is wonderful.
Been up since 4:30am with the dreaded "can't stop thinking".
Sigh.
I was looking forward to leave but it turns out it fucking sucks when you haven't got anything to do and my mates are either on vacation or doing the Xmas thing.
Well, the work year has ended and even though I resigned from my position over 6 months ago, I'm just floating around the company, doing whatever's needed (sometimes that's just being the office cheerleader).
Who knows what next year will bring. For now, nearly 2 weeks off to chill!! Hopefully a city adventure, maybe a winery, good food and probably a shitton of computer games.
Christmas cheese has been purchased, wine is at the ready!
Same. Shattered but it's so nice sitting here sipping a wine and knowing I made it to Christmas. Gonna risk sitting a bit longer. Being....happy...is a good feeling
I survived my trip to Melbourne. It's the first time in a while that I haven't travelled back in the dark, it felt slightly odd being able to see everything.
Fucking four hours into my leave yesterday and my boss was already blowing up my fucking phone. He's still going! Jesus christ mate, get a fucking hobby
Ugh. Fatigue is unusually bad. The options for the inspection were tomorrow (right after the vet) or next week so next week it is, it means I can go more slowly tidying up.
Iโm really missing my old hobbies of baking and meal prep.
My parents gave me personalised numberplates one time. This was up in NSW where you have to pay a fee to have personalised plates, so they essentially got me an extra $100 on top of my rego every year.
And I drove a silver car so they got me gold number plates. I know no one would have actually cared but I felt like everyone was looking at my car when I drove out of the RTA with the new plates on because they clashed so much
That would have been a better car gift. It was a Mazda 323, nothing special. I know they did it because my brother had personalised plates but he had a Subaru Liberty that was much more interesting and he's much more of a car guy than me
Actually:
My school book kit for the next year
A hot pink satin thong (brother, not his idea)
A large print Fairy Tale book at 15
A 30yo very used hair dryer
A kitchen appliance bought in the previous year sale so it had zero warranty
Ooof that last one. Never met mine. Glad to keep it that way.
ETA: when I was full GF I was given a GF cook book. Great yes? Until you discover it's American and 3/4 of the ingredients are 'a can of X brand soup' that doesn't exist here
There are way more than four states of matter (many exotic but not all).
Even weirder, the distinction between liquid and gas disappears under easily achievable conditions. Rather than being absolutely separate states, they exist on a continuum. We actually exploit this in the process of manufacturing decaffeinated coffee.
no, husband did not offer to make me a cup of tea when I got home, he never does
after putting some groceries away and another load of washing in the machine I am having the half cup of now cold coffee I didn't finish this morning and some shortbread , it will do
Had a bit of an embarrassing miscommunication yesterday. I saw I had a missed call, I thought they tried to call me twice, so I called them back. The guy said he was trying to return a call I made.
Then I remembered I tried to call the place I get coffee beans from but forgot about it because it went straight to voicemail. I couldn't call him back after that, so I picked up beans near where we were at the time and they're pretty good
Here's the necklace I bought my friend, I cleaned the wire with CLR and it came up beautiful. After some looking on line it's a 1920s Czech emerald glass necklace.
here's the 1969 3D Moon Landing postcard, I have to buy a new frame for it. I reckon it's kinda cool.
Thank you. ๐The glass just glows , it's so pure and pretty. And the wire work is more than it seems, it's not copper or brass as it isn't tarnished green, it's hard too, it maybe gold plated silver, which would explain the little bit of tarnish, or it might just be white metal. The clasp has been replaced so it doesn't have markings.
A weird win today with one of my laptops. It was running out off space because a busted Windows partition was taking up so much room. It also stopped doing system updates to Linux, which I thought was because Secureboot was on and blocking it. I took the SSD out, reformatted it, even unplugged the battery to the motherboard clock, and turned it all back on. Secureboot was still on and locked by the BIOS, but Fedora has reinstalled anyway.
Now I just need to check if it slows down on Google websites like before. If Google sites work smoothly it will feel like a new laptop all over again
Traffic was great this morning, travel to Melbourne took 2 hours instead of the usual 2 and a half. I normally drink my coffee while stuck in traffic and I just kept moving today and had to finish it when I got to the office instead.
Found Mistress of Spices on TV. I did own this. It had a sightly unusual binding format. Can't find the bloody thing. Did I discard it? Potential brain problem

I hope we can meet up sometime!
I can make it!
Wonderful! Have dm'd you the address.
Last day of work.
Hanging on by a thread. If anyone at work tests me today, Christmas will not be Merry (or any other hobbit)
red's a festive colour, just saying. As are entrails about a tree.
Luckily I'm working from home so no one is actually within reach of my rage
Deck someoneโs halls
The temptation is strong
AAND THATS A WRAP! HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND CHEERS ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ

2.5 hours of work left.
So far no one has dared me.
I will be working in the heart of Box Hill for the foreseeable future. Lunch is going to be EPIC
yum

Fuck me, it is christmas week, yes?
Fucking four hours into my leave yesterday and my boss was already blowing up my fucking phone. He's still going! Jesus christ mate, get a fucking hobby
I had a missed call and emails from a client yesterday wanting a proposal this week. Ah nah mate...

What's the worst chrissy present you could personally ever receive?
I'll give an example. One of daughter's teachers are vegan and still received a shit load of chocolate.

Do not give silver people gold things! And ask first if white gold counts.
It needed some fluffy dice to go with.
That would have been a better car gift. It was a Mazda 323, nothing special. I know they did it because my brother had personalised plates but he had a Subaru Liberty that was much more interesting and he's much more of a car guy than me
That's hilarious ๐
My aunt gave me a pillowcase..I was a 12 year old boy. Bad enough that I remember it clearly 35 years later.
Edit.. Oh. I thought we were doing worst ever actually received

Doesn't matter. Either.
A slab of Crown
bad news about loved ones

A dairy cookbook.
Any record by John Williamson
Bananas in Pajamas stuff
A house next door to my MIL.
Ooof that last one. Never met mine. Glad to keep it that way.

husband would want to live there ๐งโโ๏ธ๐ซ
There is an OtherPlace phrase for that
Kewpie is overrated
The spicy kewpie isn't spicy.
Very few things that claim to be spicy actually are
What's your preferred Mayo?
Sorry didnโt see your comment. Thomy is my go to. Itโs much lighter tasting than Kewpie.
morning break, coffee and some panetonne
then put another load of washing in the machine, then off to the market
There's now 4 states of matter? When did plasma happen? Why didn't anyone tell me?
::: spoiler Title :::
Hehehe this made me laugh lots.
You better sit down for this.

Wow. This needs to be on YouTube. Maybe it is and I just slept through it.
Clouds behave like a liquid
i learnt that in high school
you can see plasma in flames
Oh. Maybe I did too and forgot about it.
You can buy plasma cutters for home use if you need to cut steel on a regular basis
๐งโโ๏ธ am home ๐งโโ๏ธ

no, husband did not offer to make me a cup of tea when I got home, he never does

Ooh I could go one of those

Such unique gifts! You are a thoughtful friend.
Optometrist says bugger off and come back next year. Only pretending to work until then, but still annoying.
Optometrist says "bugger off". Computer says "no".
I suspect them of trying to double charge my insurance. Plenty of appointments free online, but not the 'right type'
