The terrorists won when she took the time to set up a tripod and a remote timer.

(Edit: Meaning, she wasn't taking pictures at all. Somebody else was.)

Given what it would have taken to get a picture with lighting like that on film, I would guess this was a pre planned shoot that just happened have the towers as a back drop that day. Most of the footage we have of the first tower is from people who were doing other things with their cameras and camcorders at that time.

That wasn’t moments after the plane hit. Given the smoke, they had time to arrange that shot.

I don’t know the situation, but at worst it comes across as crass. Perhaps they were going for a “solemn” look, but it has more of an “artistic” look. Not that it’s a particularly good composition…

TBF the culture around taking photos was very different before smartphones. It looks really bad by 2025 standards because we're used to taking a dozen pictures of our faces in front of every tourist attraction, but in 2001 selfies weren't a thing, she's just taking a picture of a remarkable event

I can't listen to down tempo music anymore without getting sad. That's why I'm listening to an electro swing remix of Ladies Night by 11 Acorn Lane.

She grew up in a country that produces movies by the bucketload about people blowing stuff up and murdering lots of people. And you’re supposed to cheer that and eat popcorn.

So when you then see it in real life, why not sit back and enjoy the moment?
