Spyke

Xmas dinner went well. We got a bonus and a healthy Westfield giftcard!!!!!

Edit: pretty wild considering I've been there 5 weeks.

I don't want the ptv app to plan my trip, I want a pocket database where I can select a route and see the timetable. Boo.

I just wanted to see when the last bus was and it's route. I still can't find it. Stupid fkn fiddly apps. e: Remember those bus timetable pamphlets you could collect from the front of busses?

Sky pretty, but I feel sad from whatโ€™s happened at Bondi. I was just there yesterday. Itโ€™s horrific.

12

so many hugs, it can feel a bit weird when you are that close in space and time, it can feel like luck

more hugs

I am apparently on the University of Tasmania 'Roll of Excellence' for my results in the Diploma of Sustainable Living. I did not know such a thing existed and doubt it will have any impact on anything, but I guess it's a nice thing to know.

11

That sounds like my Year 9 hurdles win. I came third. There were four people running, but one got disqualified for being in the wrong age group. That was the only award for athletics I ever received.

For the photo I have me n the Mayor of Bentleigh, from the school that Kennet closed.

4

Very fancy. My High School got closed too, although I don't know who was responsible for it. The site is now a community centre and dog park, so I've been able to take Mr Woof there to take a dump on the place.

8

Not related to my work at all. It is primarily aimed at sustainability in your own life and community, although there are also some more scientific subjects available in things like climate change. I've done subjects about gardening, home and landscape design for climate, increasing biodiversity and preparing for bushfires. It's been very interesting. It's also free under a HECS waiver, so you use the govt. credits towards the course but don't pay anything yourself. If you are wanting to go on to do study in that area it would be a good option and some of the subjects can be used for credits towards a bachelor degree.

Someone on the Melbourne Reddit sub mentioned doing it and I'm glad they did, I got a bit over it by the end but it has been good to do. (so thanks to the Reddit user from three years ago whose name always reminded me of 5sos but was actually something else)

OMG just saw the news about Bondi. Horrifying. I donโ€™t know what to say.

11
Rusty Ravenreply
aussie.zone

Oh, I hadn't seen it. I don't understand how people can ever get to a state where they want to do things like that. I think it's hard to know what to say because the words just don't exist. Horrible and terrible just aren't enough.

9

OMG

but sadly I am not surprised

ugh, ptsd raises it's ugly head, ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ข

I am shaking and crying , fucking terrorists, I hate them

Caught up with friends but buses replacing trains really marred the experience

Yeah, really not feeling the benefit of those new stations right now

Replacement buses suck.

Inventing electric powered rollerskates with a gps. (Give me lots of money and a patent pls)

4

I got on one of the busses on the way hone and a girl already on there said "look at all the people" in reference to everyone getting off the train. I had to restrain myself a bit explaining how trains are such a great way to move people around and this proves it with how many buses are required for a single train

A woman in my team was sick all of last week so she missed out on Kris Kringle. My girlfriend got one of those "random scoops" of dice from some fantasy store so we've put together two sets.

I'll bring them both in and try determine her favourite colour from the classic indicators; phone case, nails, drink bottle, and I'll give her the set that closest matches

Blerg ride on mower is cutting unevenly.

Time to do crash YT courses and pretend to know what I'm doing. Already been serviced twice in 3 months :'(

Hoping it's just tyre pressure. Anything else will be a head scratcher.

Alright, so RiMusic does not work (offline only it seems). I'm pretty annoyed about this situation I've got to say. Yes, social media is bad for kids, yes some restrictions were probably necessary. Banning music (YouTube Music not though YouTube proper) access on a family managed account is just stupid, heavy handed and smacks of out dated thinking... daaaaaaah What am I supposed to do, double up and pay for Spotify.... As I said, daaaaaaah!

6

Yeah. I agree that social media isnโ€™t good for kids (or anyone). But this implementation isnโ€™t well done. :/

The kids probably like a huge variety of newer music you wouldnโ€™t get on disc but mentioning just in case. I noticed Kmart is selling discmans and little cd players fairly cheap. You have the benefit of knowing what theyโ€™re listening to.

Another option is iTunes and a secondhand Shuffle.

I used to use RiMusic, would stop working for me as well.

OpenTune has been working for me for a very long time without issues.

Just remembered thereโ€™s stuff like Grayjay or Revanced?

I canโ€™t tell you much as I havenโ€™t used them myself but apparently Grayjay can play a bunch of videos from different sources. However there are mixed reviews and itโ€™s android only. The ability to allow age restricted videos seems to be broken though so maybe thatโ€™s a plus ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thereโ€™s also some non-app based measures to manage YouTube without an account https://www.clrn.org/how-to-put-parental-controls-on-youtube-without-an-account/

I went to swig down the last mouthful of tea, but forgot about the tagless teabag in there and smacked myself in the face with a ginseng teabag ๐Ÿ˜†

I made a Basque cheesecake yesterday at the insistence of Miniest and today we just decimated it, there's barely ยผ left ๐Ÿซฃ

On Tuesday the power company are shutting off the power for the whole day to do works. I've seen it as an opportunity to clean out the freezer, which has desperately needed it. Too many things in shitty containers and bagged food with pegs on that allowed foods to get freezer burnt in too short a time. Luckily I haven't done Xmas food shopping yet.

I was told in no uncertain terms that we were going outside today. There was banging on the door. I was reluctant, worried that Melbcat could wait for a chance to abscond. I managed to get a cuddle but she was adamant. Eventually my guilt won so after making a cuppa we went out.

::: spoiler spoiler

Not sure why she sooks a bit sometimes when sheโ€™s outside. Either a uti is coming back, or maybe itโ€™s her age?

My umbrella sailed away with the wind, I found tomato seedlings among the flowers, and I couldnโ€™t find my spot in the book. Neighbours dog was barking at me in my own damn yard and nutcase neighbour briefly moved around.

Eventually we needed to come back in for the bathroom.

Noticing that people seem to be arseholes to me online more frequently lately, and getting some stronger โ€˜driftโ€™ energy off the last few online friends. Even maybe a bit of a funny vibe. And itโ€™s likeโ€ฆ ok. I only stuck around for you so guess I know what time it is.๐Ÿšถ :::

I donโ€™t feel like doing art today but I might anyway this evening. It is a human activity and I have to do something. It just sucks that something that used to be inspiring is now mechanical. Same for reading. Crochet also boring.

I hope I can wrangle my brain back into books because both irl and online suck.

6

I read a book today!

A book about Australiana. I now know what to look for in op shops in country towns. ๐Ÿ™‚

4

Someone at work has been using Chat GPT to create Christmas colouring pages based on photos of people at work. So we are now surrounded by personalised Christmas pictures (which have also been helping to while away the long and boring night shifts!). Highly recommended - would be a great idea for anyone wanting a Christmas day activity for the family too.

Today at the beach I found a piece of a Spartan sample banknote. Oddest find ever, but ever so interesting. First, how did it get on the beach? Spartan is an Australian anti-counterfeit banknote company.

I knew it was a "banknote" but a denomination of 8 is just weird. Tho USSR used to have a 3 ruble note so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Ughโ€ฆ exhaustion nap. Today really sucked anxiety wise and taking Melbcat out in the yard always flares it up afterwards. Iโ€™m just trying to spoil her

::: spoiler Cancer because of her surgery in January. Itโ€™s minor, biopsy and removal of surface level cancer on her nose and lip, but Iโ€™m afraid about the general anaesthetic at her age and whether itโ€™s spread. :::

Also kicking myself for not dropping my email or number to people on Fb. It might be too late now. I put it off because.. I donโ€™t know.

4

Thanks. Hopefully she will be, as long as sheโ€™s in stable health they seem confident to handle it. Iโ€™m trying to be optimistic. But you do worry when itโ€™s your pet.

Sheโ€™s getting free flowing treats too as always
