Every morning I scroll through memes and they are all the same. I just wonder why does this one get so many up votes. I don't get why it's so popular.

Its such bullshit though. No one hates our government more than we do.

That's apparently not true, since the majority of you did vote for them.

I mean, I know how hard it sucks to have that keep happening. I know the only thing worse than having a shit Government is knowing that your idiot countrymen actually want it.

2

Only a third of people that voted did so for Labour. Out of people able to vote, just under 60% actually voted. To a lot of people I think our most recent election can very much be summed up by "Well these choices are shit".

Fun fact, Conservatives and LibDem combined got a greater voter turnout than Labour.

It wasn't the majority of us because I don't even think we barely made it over the majority of people registered to vote, to actually vote.

Same goes for brexit, (number out of my arse but) I think about 30+% didn't vote either way, yet they treat it like the majority of the country overall wanted it.

Plus the current government were only voted in to stop a worse one from continuing, and they seem to be going back on the principals both what they campaigned for as well as what the party has been historically known for.

3

Voter dissatisfaction is likely going up, given the amount of people not voting at all increased a lot in the last election. More people didn't vote than voted for labour.

That is literally the expressed reason for it. Think of the children. And people are like, "YEAH PROTECT THE CHILDREN, DISMANTLE ALL CIVIL RIGHTS, WE ARE BEING INVADED BY PEDOPHILES, ONLY WAY TO FIGHT THEM IS TO END DEMOCRACY AND LET CORPORATIONS TAKE OVER!"

Truth is our Politician's are so out of touch with the time.

Chat control for one allows governments to read all chats, but at the same time reading and opening physical mail is still considered illegal.

Same with age verification some of these politicians thing it would work like going to the amusement park and getting your height checked to ride the rollercoaster.

7

What really stupid is if I really want to see people take all their clothes off I can do that right now without even using a VPN because there's plenty of websites that have just ignored the government.

4

Theres porn on the Internet and we all know kids are incapable of doing something like going to page 2 of Google results.

Meanwhile 4chan ignored it. Got a fine and laughed. Then as far as I can tell, nothing happened. They are not going to pay the fine because why the fuck would they? 4chan still works just fine in the UK, you don't even need a VPN.

The ICO has always been all bark and no trousers. The big websites are just cowards, if they all told them where to stick their stupid law the government would have no comeback.

8

It's ofcom, not the ICO. Are they cowards or are they hungry for data?

I'm not convinced this is the reason for the Imgur block. They were asked by the UK about how they processed the data for minors at the start of the year. They refused to provide it, and were then fined. When the age check was implemented I think they used that as an excuse to block the UK, so they "weren't operating in it" and didn't need to answer the questions.

The UK gov disagrees with that and is planning more legal action iirc.

If they had done the block without that law, people would be asking why they were not revealing how they process data of minors.

7

Should just ignore all messages from the UK. 4chan still works here and they are refusing to pay the fine.

8

oOOH they LIKE that! "How old are you child? Are you 7? 8? 9? Because if you're 18 we are not interested. There is no way this can backfire, see, come here why don't you give me your data and your mobile phone number. Are you old enough to have a government ID yet? No? Goood, goood."

Imgur blocking is a bit of a pain - half the mods in steam are missing images in their description.

The online safety act also means we get to submit ID to view anything construed as "adult". Very "av you got a loiscencse for that" these days without a VPN.

I FEEL SO MUCH GOD DAMNED SAFER THANK GOD THAT THIS ENDED PEDOPHILIA AND TERRORISM SUCH A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR THAT

16

They're trying to go that route but there's a bunch of practical problems with that that they haven't considered.

3

I just use tor. A bit hit or miss whether I will be blocked by the website, but it's okay.

1

Unfun fact: a good part of the internet goes down every time there's a football match in Spain, because the government gave a football league access to the national internet blocklist to stop piracy or smth and they put the entirety of Cloudflare on there

28

Don’t worry. It’s just a couple of bots arguing with each other or an ad. You aren’t missing much.
