"Gifted" is a bit of a stretch. They were found in a package addressed to the Red Cross. Rightfully delivered, perhaps.
I think that's just the conclusion of the state, not that the state gifted them. The Swiss Government isn't going to toot their own horn about giving 200k to an organization with a 3 billion operating budget that they already give around 200 million to every year.
The article says that they literally did investigate it though.

Yes, you're right. Headline probably translated because it's not a clear way to say this. Also was surprised that gold bars are only 2K each, but I see the common size is 1 oz and they aren't very big....
