A lot of these museums want to give this stuff back but there’s a law from the government saying they’re not allowed to so they often try to return stuff on loan to get around it. Some of the countries don’t want to do this because they think it might imply they accept British ownership of the items in questions is they refuse it.

There's also another side to it where the British museum can hide behind this law even though they wouldn't give it back anyway. "Sry it's against the rules"
