Agreed, really love how much more engagement I’m seeing here. What’s cool is how this feels like the first days of Reddit way back in the day. No bots, etc.
Its really good. Turn based but has a timing thing for attacking and some decently hard fights. Fun story, cool characters, im very surprised tossed it getting remastered.
Interestingly Paper Mario 64 was apparently originally a sequel to SMRPG, there's some super early dev footage that got shown off at an expo that used the name "Super Mario RPG 2" for what was eventually reworked into the first Paper Mario
This is amazing. I never thought they’d remaster this game. I only knew about this game recently. Heard it was a cult classic that sat outside the mainstream despite being Mario in the 90s.
The original was also made during the peak era of Squaresoft at the time too so just that extra bit of lightning in a bottle this game sounded like.
I’ve played a bit of it on a miyoo mini recently and really dug it. Super happy to see this piece of news!
I tried playing the OG version on the SNES virtual console and bounced off of it. I loved the remake of Links Awakening so I've got high hopes for this too.
Never heard of an Mario RPG before, on what platform was it, N64? (I never had, that's why I might not know about this game)
The video confuses me, is everything there the new game or some scenes are out of the old game?
Super Mario RPG was a game developed by Square and published by Nintendo on the SNES in 1996. It inspired later Mario RPG series; the first Paper Mario game on the N64 was originally going to be a sequel to it.
The only scene from the original game in this trailer is the beginning shot of Peach. After that, everything is from the remake.
I'm just happy I see this kind of news here in the fediverse and don't have to rely on reddit

Super Mario RPG has my favorite music in the series, so I'm excited to hear it all remastered
Yoko Shimomura, the original composer, is back to work on it!
That's awesome, I didn't know that! I'm glad to learn it here on Lemmy
The forest theme is my favorite!
My immediate response was "No fucking way!", followed by "How much?" and "$60?? Dammit, I'm probably going to pay that."
wow that looks great, looks modern but faithful to the original art style
Agreed, I'm so glad the kept the squashed look.
they still have the short stocky mario, this is amazing
This was the one on the list that I am probably most initially hyped for, I loved this game as a kid!
This is one of my favorite games of all time that I am constantly going back and playing again.
So excited to see this.
oh shit, the best I was ever hoping for was a port to switch SNES. This is awesome!
Was not expecting this at all!
Neither was I. It's nice to be surprised sometimes.
Never played Mario RPG, but I'm down to try it! Should be cool!

Good music too
Soon you'll join the rest of us calling for Geno in Smash.
This and FF3 on the SNES are what got me into RPGs. I wasn't a Mario fan but played a lot of this.
A favorite of mine from childhood! My first experience with the RPG genre.
Same here! I don't know how many hours I spent unlocking every last secret in that game and there were so, so many.
Geno my boy... I can't wait for the updated soundtrack
They actually did it, the absolute madmen. As a kid I rented this over and over from Blockbuster but never finished it. Maybe now I finally will.
I wish it was a sequel instead of a remake but remakes are much easier for a business to justify.
Probably easier to justify a sequel now that they've made a remake though 👀
It would be an easy low budget seller for them, this might be to check interest since it is a known property.

This is easily the most exciting announcement in the direct. Was not expecting it at all and now I'm extremely excited.
Don't forget:
Real Yaridovich doesn't use Meteor Attack or Static E or Bolt
Go Left, Left, Straight, Right
SO LA MI RE DO RE DO RE
P-E-A-R-L-S
Rewards for Cricket Jam and for lost wallets are better with age
When your items are maxed out, you only get to choose what you want to toss if you aren't in a battle.
If I recall the single target attack cursor also defaulted to the real deal in the Yaridovich fight
The mirage also takes more damage
This brought back so many memories! Can’t wait for this one!

I didn't know I wanted this. Pretty hyped for an old school JRPG with modern visuals.
I'm so hyped! I love that it still has the 2.5D Perspective.
I never thought that they'd be able to negotiate a remake. This looks fantastic
I tried playing the OG version on the SNES virtual console and bounced off of it. I loved the remake of Links Awakening so I've got high hopes for this too.
I am certain these are the end times, because I was sure this was never going to happen.
Like... I'm worried there is a monkey paw out there that curled.
Remember when Spyro Reignited was released and it was frame-for-frame accurate and your muscle memory and auditory cues could just take over?
Do you trust Nintendo to do the same?
Yeah, it feels like they’re going to shove it full of loot boxes and DLC somehow. Luckily that’s not really how Nintendo does things.
So excited about this! It's a must-buy for me
This is one of my top games of all time- so excited!
Looks great!
Holy shit. Wasn’t expecting this at all.
Brb, gonna start a replay on my snes
Never heard of an Mario RPG before, on what platform was it, N64? (I never had, that's why I might not know about this game) The video confuses me, is everything there the new game or some scenes are out of the old game?
It is a full remake of the original Mario rpg that was on the SNES.

One of the last snes games iirc.
Oh damn, gues I was already hyped of Mario World these days, so I wasn't looking anymore for NES-Games. Thanks
SNES, Super Nintendo. It is way different from the NES.
Those rumors turned out to be true
Hnnnngh, right in my childhood. Should be a great game for switch in portable mode.
I am so hyped for this and the new super Mario bros
Those absolute madlads! they did it!
Yes! One of my all time favorites. Can’t believe it’s taken this long to do a re-release.
So hyped for this!! The orchestration sounds great!
Also now they're legally obligated to put Geno in Smash 😏
Oh, good times. Too bad this happens after Smash is done releasing DLC characters. Ahh well, hope for the next one! #PutGenoInSmash
I love Nintendo
Holy shit they did it
I always thought Nintendo had forgotten about this game, glad they're bringing it to a new generation of players!
I'm very excited
Holy flirking schnit!
