Same. My wife isn't much of a gamer but NSMB Wii and NSMBU are some of the only games we'll play together and really enjoy. I think I'd actually pay for subscription DLC for a NSMB-style game if it gave you a few new levels to play through every month or two.
I hoped Mario Maker 2's user-generated content would feel like that, but the levels were so small and puzzle-focused that it really didn't work.
Good. Mario games remind me of playgrounds, and as an adult it's difficult to motivate myself to visit on to slide down the slide, play on the monkey bars or ride the Merry-Go-Round. I'm out of shape and fat, likely to have police called on me by concerned parents/onlookers. Mario games are virtual playgrounds for kids of all ages.
I love how well designed the characters look. After so many Mario games using similar models, it's great to see fun animations and creative liberties for these characters. Gameplay looks awesome and super fun as well. New Super Mario Bros was a blast and here's hoping this one is too. Day 1 buy.
Loved the scene where Mario enters the pipe but loses his hat and quickly grabs it. The flowers seem pretty funny and entertaining too. Definitely feels like there is a lot more love and attention invested in this one!
The game has a lot of the modern Rayman 2D games' energy. The flowers commenting on what is happening, the musical elements, the generally trippiness.
This looks great.
As someone who enjoyed the "New Super Mario Bros." games, this looks absolutely fantastic. 2D Mario has always been my favorite, so I'm super pumped to see something new that's not "New". Even though I enjoyed the "New" I think it's time to move away from "New" to new. Ya know?
Yeah, at first I didn't like the new style, but as the trailer went on I started to like it more and more. It's a refreshing update, but it almost reminds me of the style of the older games too in some ways
Only thing I don't like is the voice-acted talking flowers. I don't need a voice to pop up and go "wow this is weird and wacky" when something weird and wacky happens.
Playable Daisy temporarily cured my depression so glad that Daisy is playable in a mainline game (the drugs probably helped) and i think Yoshi is as well cause at 2:00 all 4 are Yoshis and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the easy character like Toadette or Nabbit with a flutter that they normally have 1:46.
It seems you have to take LSD to get the collectables so do drugs kids?
This plus rpg they really hitting that nostalgia market hard this time.
This looks trippy. The talking flowers really made me smile I don’t know why. Yoshi running in the air to get a further jump really reminded me of Yoshi’s island so I’ll give this one a try.
Huh. I've replied to a bunch of you guys's comments and loads of them doesn't seem to have posted or at least are invisible to me, to anyone else seeing this. Is there a comment from me under the the guy talking about the game being 2.5D?
Oh that's definitely the issue. Try posting from the website and setting the comment's language to english? The person you're reply to may have deselected undetermined in their profile.
The graphics in this look very intriguing. I'm not sure it'll be my favourite 2d mario game but I am sure I will enjoy it thoroughly! I'm happy Nintendo didn't abandon the format, I was somewhat worried they were going to only make 3d Mario games going forward.
I really want Nintendo to make a more powerful system next. One that can handle the detailed creation of 3D space, so we could have Mario Maker 3D and make worlds for Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy and hell, later down the line release Mario Kart Maker. Alas, that would mean Nintendo listening to fans, and well, do they do that?
It looks like Mario Maker means Nintendo can't release a standard 2d Mario any longer. They had to go back to the drawing board and amp up the custom gimmicks of each level.
The trailer blew me away with style and creativity. This will most likely be a day one purchase for my house.
I'm surprised people care more about Mario RPG with different graphics than this new Mario game. 2D Mario has disappointed us in the past, but this takes leaps and risks Nintendo wasn't willing to take before. The game actually looks really good, and it's flaws are found in many other Nintendo games (People are finding the talking flower irritating, despite so many Nintendo titles having irritating side characters). From what I've seen from this game, it takes dangerous risks, has a nice art style, and actually has difficulty to it.
This one may feel... weird. But I strongly encourage everyone to give this one a chance, even if it somehow turns out being not great, buying this encourages Nintendo to take more creative risks.
(yes I will admit, this game does seem to look like you're on drugs.)
I think people are looking for the next quantum leap for mario games. Nothing wrong with a 2D mario platformer, but it has to do more than New Super Mario Bros and Mario Maker 2. Quite frankly I am more interested in Wonder than RPG. RPG is an S-tier game, and it would be nice to replay, but, you know, it's a super nintendo game. One that anyone could still play right this second.
Playing the 2d Mario games with kids is one of the best things as a parent. Both watching them be able to play/beat levels with adult assistance, and being an adult and trying to make it through without one of the other characters killing you.
If you move in 2D it's a 2D game. 2.5D is fine if you really want, but there's no actual functional difference between having 3D models vs pixel art. The gameplay is what defines the game.
You are right that there is no functional difference but 2.5D is an accepted term to define games made to look like 3D or uses 3D models while restricting movement to the 2D plane. It’s not just fine if you really want, it’s a real established descriptor.
Ngl, I always thought something like this (Mario with 'drugs' that cause weird-ass environment changes) would be amazing. Crazy to see that come to fruition.
I'm usually an extremely patient gamer (see: if it's not on a system I can pick up used for <=$100, or could have at some point in history before it gained collector value, I'm probably not playing it), but I'm almost willing to make an exception here. Almost.
I'm liking the newer art style. Different enough from what we've had from all the NSMB games
I think it looks very beautiful!
I'm digging the style as well. It's good that not all games look alike.
Yeap. It looks great and different, but not so much so that I'm concerned.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of these games to be honest.

My first Mario game was Mario Kart DS when I was 4, that was 18 years ago now and I'm not going anywhere when it comes to Mario.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder how high these guys got making this game, amirite?
I guess the mushrooms are finally kicking in
and Daisy is also there, i guess.
Yes, she is a playable character.

This game is so new. like newer than new. Newer Super Mario Bros
Goated ROM hack, playing through the DS one currently
Ahh the DS version was great I completed it a few years ago but I haven't completed the Wii version yet
Wasn’t expecting to be impressed by a 2D Mario game after New Super Mario Bros. 2 and U. Really excited for this game.
Looks like it has a fresh lick of paint with how funky the gimmicks are.
The game has a lot of the modern Rayman 2D games' energy. The flowers commenting on what is happening, the musical elements, the generally trippiness.
This looks great.
Finally, a new Art-Style. It's awesome how animated the Characters are. Mario looking outside the Pipe, holding his hat etc.
Small details are where it counts IMO.

I'm also definitely not a fan of all of the words popping up on screen either. Aside from those two aspects the game looks phenomenal.
I agree, I'll be turning the voice lines off if I can, hearing spoken word feels a bit off in Mario Games, unless its a song like in Odyssey.

Hopefully when you play as Yoshi, you get to ride Mario.
Sound message Nintendo
Luigi in the Sky with Diamonds
Super Mario Bros: in Linking the Sapient Dream
So, is anyone gonna mention the elephant in the room?
Wowee zowee
I guess all those mushrooms Mario ate over the years finally caught up to him.
This plus rpg they really hitting that nostalgia market hard this time.

Stoked for Super Mario RPG, played it years ago, never finished it though as I got stuck on a boss. But I'm definitely getting it.

Hm. That's strange. I don't see your comment. Or mine. Weird...
Hopefully this one comes through. I think its something to do with Jerboa, as it keeps coming up with an error languagee_not_allowed, bug possibly?
These ones are making it.aybe it has something to do with that 2.5d thread.
Oh that's definitely the issue. Try posting from the website and setting the comment's language to english? The person you're reply to may have deselected undetermined in their profile.
That's what it was in the end, I rewrote all the comments in the web browser, I hope Jerboa adds a setting to choose a language by default to post in.
I can see all your comments in this thread.
Holy cow that's trippy. The game could be really fun as a result of that style though. It isn't exactly like Mario wasn't weird to begin with.
I'm all for trippy Mario games, breaks the boredm of today's realism games.
can this be released today instead of October?!

They changed how Yoshi sounds, I say we riot
I did not notice this, truly devastating news. I don't know how I shall even be able to sleep at night!
Honestly
I was 60% sure the Mario Maker series meant there was never going to be another real sidescroller. Glad to be wrong!

Looks like Mario combined with Rayman Legends.
Playing the 2d Mario games with kids is one of the best things as a parent. Both watching them be able to play/beat levels with adult assistance, and being an adult and trying to make it through without one of the other characters killing you.
Super excited to have a new option coming.
Wow, really gorgeous game! Glad they're doing something a bit different this time!
Anybody else find that "woah" talking flower super annoying and irritating? I think that's ruining it for me 😂. Otherwise I think it looks fantastic.
2.5D, no?
Yes. 2D games made with 3D models. I don’t here them referred to like that much anymore though.
If you move in 2D it's a 2D game. 2.5D is fine if you really want, but there's no actual functional difference between having 3D models vs pixel art. The gameplay is what defines the game.

Outstanding title
Nintendo should hire me
Looks fun, excited
I cant wait to - Im gonna say the E word - emulate this game
The artstyle update is refreshing. I'm pretty excited to try this one out!
Finally, no more "New Soup"
I bet you that it's $80
I'm guessing £49.99-£59.99

Looks fun, excited
