FREE 1984 The Family Webster Encyclopedia
Does anyone want this old and lightly dusty 20 volume set of books? They have been with my family since probably that date, but nobody wants them anymore.
I like to horde cool stuff and encyclopedias have always felt like a big wealth of random knowledge. But I am cleaning things out and don't want to have responsibility for these being destroyed in a flood or something.
I will ship them all for free to anywhere up to $100 in shipping cost. I pay for shipping. I just want them gone but safe.
Would really want somebody who is actually interested in taking care of or handling these books well.
My other option is of course my library, but it feels more personal to give a Lemmy user first dibs.
Please share so I can find a new owner quickly. Thanks.
Edit: will ship anywhere in the world up to $100

You could consider a physical donation to the Internet Archive too, which is potentially more useful than a normal library because, as they say and I quote, they "try to digitize materials and make them available publicly as funding allows".

While I can't seem to find it up on the archive itself, the Donate Books app says they don't need it :(

I guess they have yet to finish scanning and uploading it.
I was excited to see located at "Florida Avenue" but then saw it was a California address 😭
Literally 1984
Right 💀 what a coincidental date
I don't believe in coincidences
Coincidences don't believe in you, either
Neither does Santa, still I get presents each year. Checkmate atheist
I don't believe in 1984, not without sharing anyways...

In what region of the world are you located (it may help, as abroad shipping will most probably be over 100$). Beside that My first suggestion would have been to contact your local library but it's already covered so ;)
North America / United States 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🦅
In the US you should be able to ship them 'media mail' which is extremely cheap.
I read about that just this week (users way back on a site for trading books commonly used it). Glad to know that's still an option!
I appreciate that you’re offering. I can’t home them because I’m already in trouble with [extremely long list of things my SO does not give two shits about]. But I love that you’re making the effort. Good on ya.
That's a shame. But I do hope for you to know this. We can never wait for motivation to strike! Knock out that list little by little.
Yeah my wife tells me I can't have anything new unless I can tell her where I will put it now.
Because my wharhammer minis and armada stuff and hema weaponry takes up to much space
Hi! Unfortunately I've got someone who's come before you to take these off my hands. I do have many other older books I might post here some day. Be on the lookout these coming months!
Are there any community centers, or rehabs in your area? Places like those can use books. An entire set like yours would be cool to see.
I already have 3 encyclopedias, stop temping me.
