We're unique in the sense that we've produced the most written material among species on earth...that we have record of
But what if smurfs or snorks were real, and we stole their concept of passing on generational knowledge, then destroyed the evidence? We were like, why use coral reefs to create murals of our history? We can just cut down trees and carve thirsty ass love letters into their corpses, or just whammy up on some stones. We just won't include this part...
We share most of our brain with other mammals, specifically the part responsible for emotion. Reasoning, which resides in the neo cortex, may be absent there, but I'm firmly convinced that everything you feel can be felt by our fellow mammals.
Weird when people extend our emotions to other animals, but 100% with you on mammals. There's an argument to be made for the smarter birds, but they still don't have the same brain structures.
As to reasoning, my pet pig has pulled some astonishing moves, smarter than any dog or cat I've had. One time he walked up to the fence across the front porch, saw that I had removed a clamp, casually lifted it with his nose and cruised out. This is not a thing he had tested before. But no, nothing approaching human levels, not past a 4-yo or so.
