Weekly Demi Discourse (October 27th, 2025) - What's something seen as normal in dating culture that you simply don't get?

Sorry for not posting in the community a little bit, do plan on keeping the community active, just been busy as I've been planning on a big move.

Today's weekly question asks what you don't get about accepted norms in dating culture. What do you find odd about it all, and why?

Certain expectations on “first date”. I feel like “first dates” are really more of a hangout to gauge people’s vibes and see if the person is someone you can be around often, or if they are someone you’d probably constantly fight with. I list out my preferences and expectations very clearly on my dating profile page, but I find that I often had to declare them again in text (causal hangout, talking only, splitting the bill, etc)

Another thing is the amount of people that will state “looking for a long term relationship” in their bio and then hit me with “are you looking for something casual”. It’s really frustrating
