It's precisely because you don't bring your phone into the shower that allows your mind to wander and make novel connections which you may then share later.

Good point. This makes the entire rest of Lemmy the "shitter thoughts" umbrella community as thats where everyone is posting and commenting from.

The shower is one of the few places where you don't bring the phone with you, so you are not distracted by external stimuli and are free to think deeply for a long time without interruptions, allowing you to form novel and complex thoughts. If you have a bit of memory retention you then jump out of the shower and post on feddit.

If you have a bit of memory retention

Ah. That's my problem.

You're taking too long in the shower. Think about water conservation.

No. It's clear to me now that other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than I.

hold onto a thought longer than I.

If you were speaking about someone else, would you use "he/she" or "him/her" in this context?

Because if it's the former, then you use "I" to replace it, and if it's the latter, you use "me".

other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than she.

Doesn't sound right.

other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than her.

Sounds better.

You are saying I should have said:

"It's clear to me now that other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than me."

The personal pronoun, "me" is used when it is the object. However, that's not the case here. I'm not being held. Thoughts are the object. I'm comparing how well they hold onto thoughts with how well I hold onto thoughts.

The sentence, "It's clear to me now that other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than I", has an implied verb. This is common in informal conversation.

The meaning I would expect an English speaker to understand would be, "It's clear to me now that other people have an ability to hold onto a thought longer than I can."

2

It’s named shower thoughts because they’re thoughts you have in the shower. When you’re on the shitter you’re usually on your phone, not solving the world’s problems like you do when you’re in the shower.

2

but you might think of something in the shower and then share after it, but there should also be a shitter thoughts as I get messages from people on the shitter

2

idk, my shower thoughts are usually hypothetical arguments I imagine having with people that would almost certainly never act in the way that leads me to imagine the argument with them to begin with
