How to deal with exposed main drain? [Eastern Canada]
You can just see the top of the drain pipe sticking out to the left of the shadow.
The contractor that built this addition had a little decorative box there so I never saw this until now. It lasted through two winters with that little box and a bale of straw that was put there for unrelated reasons, but I feel like that was dumb luck.
What would you do? Keeping in mind a tear-out and replace is out of the question before spring now.

"Exposed" as in open to the air? I can't tell from the picture.
Is that perhaps the clean out access? I suppose not, since it was covered.
Not a plumber, but recently had my sewer line replaced: looks like a cleanout, but hard to tell from what is visible.
Apologies for the bad photo. Any chance you have some advice with the newly cropped one?
My current plan is to wrap it in a bunch of rockwool for the winter and then dig out the whole drain line to see if it can be done better.
Yeah the top 2-in of a 6-in drain pipe are sticking out of the ground fully exposed to the air. I'll get a better picture as soon as I'm done driving.
It is not a clean out. It goes directly to the bottom of the toilet where everything else joins the septic system.
