Long Point via Fayetteville Trail New River Gorge National Park, WV

Easy 6.6 mi out and back 1,014 ft elevation gain Hiked 9/14/25

The longer of two trails that takes you the Long Point outcrop and viewing area, this trail starts at the nearby Fayetteville Park. The majority of the trail is closed in with little to no views, but leads to a wide open viewpoint of the New River Bridge spanning the gorge below. Can get crowded.

A pedestrian bridge in early fall.

Fungi and moss make their home out of an exposed root section along the trail.

A view through the trees looking towards the New River Gorge Bridge. If this shot had about half the branches it does, it'd be a lot cooler.

Wow, I was there just this past weekend. Didn't expect to see this scrolling on Lemmy. Nice!

There's a few mountaineers around Lemmy. We even had an instance for a while. Rip dubvee.org.

Wonder what the proportion of WVnians to others is. Maybe it's frequency bias, but I've been surprised that I've encountered people not just from the state, but even the same county as me...
