Can we consider degenerating from maga.place and hilariouschaos.com?

Both instances are pointedly political and looking to spread their particular philosophies to the threadiverse. Moreover, their users aren’t exactly winning any awards for charm. Can we put it to a vote before they become a nuisance?

I can’t actually edit my post, so my typo remains. Thanks, autocorrect, you fuck.

On the plus side, your mistyped question is still accurate: it is conceivable that you'll be turning into a degenerate if your instance is maga.place.

It requests that I change my language on the web interface, and doing so would effectively dismiss 99% of lemmy. I’m fine with looking a little foolish to include others

I just tried it on an older post and I just ignored the language setting and it worked fine. Is that not the case for you?

Unless someone else has the same language set, they won’t be able to see this. The percentages for users are supposed to be something like 2% English, 5% other, 93% undefined. I can’t exactly go for a discussion with 2% of Lemmy.

All users should have both undefined and their language(s) selected. I have both and see all. But it's also community dependent. Perhaps this one isn't set to both?

Iirc this will be streamlined or at least less confusing with Lemmy 1.0?

You can select multiple languages. I have english, spanish, and undefined. Just hold ctrl down when you click the languages you want and they will be selected together.

You're on threads though. Why would it matter to you? FYI, threads is a horrible place to hang, not only because you could've edited your typo here on sh.itjust.works. You should be asking your instance.

Your username says you're on threads. Are you a user here too sometimes?

I realize that I should avoid engaging in chicanery while attempting to spur change, but I couldn’t help myself. That’s my nickname you’re seeing. Click my profile to see my username

Yeah, it's funny, but I did downvote this post because I thought you were threads.

Edit: Also, I don't know if it's part of your shtick, but you can edit your post.

Where have you seen a post by a threads user? I’m pretty sure your instance degenerated from them before they even implemented activitypub

7

Ah, you got me. I didn't realize @ was legal in display names.

And I never bothered checking what the result of the threads defederation was.

Normally I'd be in favor of allowing dialogue to avoid echo chambers, but judging by the posts and comments of the one user in maga.place they're clearly not intending to engage in constructive conversation and I'd say defederate (or degenerate) now.

hilariouschaos seems more reasonable based on recent posts, but all I did is sample some recent comments so I could be missing something.

[puts on my Admin hat...]

sh.itjust.works has had hilariouschaos.com on our instance block list for quite a while. If you see content federating from there, send me a link and I will check it out.

As for maga.place, as @[email protected] said, that's a good topic for a discussion post in ![email protected].

[takes off my Admin hat...]

maga.place clearly looks like someone's personal troll instance. However, I notice their local feed is currently dominated by someone making anarchist posts in ![email protected]. A piece of me is curious to watch how this is going to play out.

I saw a post on another instance about defederating from them, and my first thought was that they seemed too small to bother

13

This is bizarre, I made certain that hilariouschaos wasn’t on our blocked instance list both by reading through the list and by ctrl+f before I posted. I have absolutely no clue how I could have made that mistake.

10

That's more of a thing for the Agora, no?

Personally, I think we should only defederate if they're causing problems. If that's the case, report the posts and comments that cause problems and the admins are likely to block them or their instance.

If you feel so strongly, gather some evidence and make a post on the Agora.

id say defederate it seems that one person on maga.place is not a fan of open discusion and just wants to push what they think with no other side.
