“We don't need separation of faith and politics. We don't need separation of church and state."

Yeah, yeah you do.

I bet he wants separation of church and state for every religion except one.

Gotta narrow it down more than that. Can't let Catholics or Mormons slide in on the lawmaking either!

Those who established that separation had lived in a world without it and knew how it negatively affected both the government and the religions. Saying it's not needed shows a combination of ignorance of history and a desire to be the one religious group who gains power over others.

Yes, the founders knew of what they spoke, since The Inquisition was still ongoing in their lifetimes.

There is no way they set up this country as a secular country by accident. Or didn't mention Jesus once in the Constitution as some kind of "oversight", and actually really meant to imply this was a xtian nation, even if the Treaty of Tripoli later spells it out that we are not a xtian nation...

These fucking morons forget that the primary, actual, material reason that the Founding Fathers did the whole... seperation of church and state thing?

Yeah, yeah, it was to prevent the myriad groups of extremist sects of Christianity that comprised the early US... from fucking oppressing and killing each other, via the government.

Remove that seperation, and within half a decade we will literally have Y'all Qaedas for each fucking cult and denomination fire bombing each other, doing mass sectarian violence amongst themselves and those they all view as heretics.

I guess it will be funny(?) if we end up with the Mormon War, round 2.

We need separation of these idiots from the halls of power.

The Satanic Temple is thrilled to hear you say that!

20

Sure. And who thought women should vote? Or even have the right to their own bodies? Insane Non-Christian Leftists! Vote for me and we’ll get down to some serious discrimination.

Good job NC. You're making SC jealous.

9

This means their religion is now of political concern. They forfeit their protections in doing this

8

I think what this indicates is that he doesn’t comprehend what “separation” means in this context. Or “church” for that matter.

Would he really have no issues with the Pope ruling the US by papal decree? Or the king of England (the leader of the Anglican/Episcopalian church)?

6

Did they forget that every time a king changed the kingdom's religion it was convert or die?

5

Why is it always the people from religions that diddle children that want no separation

4

And so he reveals himself as an anti-American traitor who deserves to be barred from office. And if the government won't do it, the People must.

This is the literally reason people left England for America. Religious Freedom, or from it.

Whole lotta dipshits like to say that yeah, you have freedom "of" religion, not "from" religion. As if one without the other makes any fucking sense whatsoever. This is an actual thing that you will hear adults say, and expect you to accept it as received wisdom and something to take seriously.

They think the Founders intended that you choose from one of several (Protestant) xtian denominations, and that was the sum total of your "religious freedom". That non-xtians should not even be a thing here in the "land of the free", and even if they are, certainly they should not be treated equally with the xtians.

2

Agree. Pretty sad, really. In the end why does it even matter to them? In their shitty book, the non-believers are judged and sent to hell anyway. Let us go to our final destination in piece, you can keep going to your temple and praying for salvation

Qbert said the same thing and she is in office.

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3540071-boebert-says-she-is-tired-of-separation-between-church-and-state-the-church-is-supposed-to-direct-the-government/

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) says she is “tired” of the long-standing separation between church and state in the U.S., adding that she believes “the church is supposed to direct the government.”

Let that last part sink in. Not only is that so completely bone-headed, given this is a secular nation, but....which fucking church? There are about 45 thousand denominations of xtianity.

3

Uh yeah. Why? Because people are free to choose any religion they wish and it has no place in politics

2
lemmy.world

But isn't that separation baked into their constitution?

Yes, which is why this seditious traitor needs to be punished for promising to violate his oath of office before he's even elected.

Qbert has not been punished yet and she's said this same kind of dipshittery in public. She was quite proud of it, too.
