Hummingbird Clearwing Moth photographed at my community garden yesterday [OC]

Didn't even know such a thing existed. At first I thought it was a baby hummingbird until I got closer and saw the fur and antennae.

Is this an example or convergent evolution or mimicry? Or something else I'm not aware of?

Yes (convergent part), but I would say that it's more like the bird(s) one is converging to take the classic infect job

Thanks, I used Google Lens to reverse image search and then cross referenced the results with my state’s biodiversity page.

I love these little guys, they were all over our garden when I was a kid. It's been a few years since I've seen one unfortunately :(
