PSA seen on the other place: check public transport seat for needles.

10

I have seen needles in the seat cushions of trams. You just tell the driver, who puts a sticky tape barrier over the seat and the one next to it and the cushions are replaced at the depot.

2

Not sure there is much other option. His fuzzy butt levered the window to ppping.

2

The floor. A terrifying 50cm from where he started ๐Ÿ™€

3

He's fine, just will lose his nest spot. And I get a bill.

4

Today I have misused my executive power to put googly eyes on the shredder.

They all think I'm mad but are too polite to say so.

9

This week has flown by. Been super busy at work. Miniest got accepted into her choice of secondary school! (Big yay). She's also being allowed on her first school camp ever ๐Ÿ˜ณMr P got himself some new false teeth and now has to get used to them. Have been watching one of my personal favourite online communities (Imgur) become enshittified and have been looking for an alternative. There's just nothing quite like it out there, and I had my little community there, but now everyone is scattering. Fuck you medialab ai.

Interview done... lasted less than 15 minutes but felt okay. We'll see what happens next.

8

I work with a bloke who I disliked from day 1. Don't know why. Something about him irritated me and I couldn't get past it.

Today I realised why. He looks like Dave Hughes (hope he's okay given his injuries)

Iโ€™m so fucking buzzed off rehearsal last night!!!!!!

Plus I got to play a real drum kit and yeah, the electronic one is great but the real one is fucking amazing.

Apparently Iโ€™m going to the gym today then thatโ€™s me. I have to go and re-setup all my gear from last night so joys of cabling here we go.

8

Thank you! And the gym has paid off Iโ€™m getting rid of migraines! I used to play for 20 mins and have to stop.

Yesterday I played for 6 HOURS!!

Wild shit haha

Just warning you all that Imgur front page is full of NSFW and boobs as a protest, in case you want to specifically avoid that kind of thing.

7

It used to be one of my favourite places, but I deleted my account about a week ago. The newish mob that own it turfed out all the old staff and mods and are now "AI first". As a consequence stuffs breaking left right and centre and all the accounts that made it a community have skadaddelled it's gone fully rogue this week but I understand.

I liked the interwebs when it was for cute (non AI and not drugged for ease) animals and fun weirdos.

4

Yeah the breakdown of notifications was the last straw for a lot of people. It's bad enough that the videos would load, half play and then freeze lol, but I was putting up with that because I loved some of the users. Now they aren't taking uploads from Ukraine. A few have set up discords but I hate the discord format, it's like 100 people talking at once.

4

Ha! I quit years ago when they banned NSFW. Was the only use I had for it.

4

Imgur was bought by a company called Medialab ai, who sacked all the mods and tech support staff and pumped the site with ads. Edit: some stories that some much loved user/mods were sacked in sudden/nasty ways undeservedly. Some classic and old Imgurians accounts were banned. Posts were arbitrarily removed (ai mods now). Secret Santa was abolished. All NSFW uploads were removed by Medialab to make it more attractive to advertisers. They aren't accepting uploads from accounts which are Ukrainian. Some Imgurians are rebelling against the enshittification, others are just leaving and looking for similar sites elsewhere. There isn't anything quite like Imgur tho.

5

got bought by a new company who just wanted the image repo for AI training and are consequently banning and firing everyone and ploughing it into the ground.

3

didn't they used to be owned by Reddit as a free safe image storage site for redditors?

Gym done.

Nap and lunch done.

Just have to re do the cabling (joy of joys lol) and the great zonk can begin.

Tonight it's just practice and video games but tomorrow night I'm heading to an event called:

Divorced Dads Grunge Night lol

Can't wait to see what it's like.

Edit:

You're right Gibson. A 2nd nap is a great idea.

Second interview this afternoon with the guy who didn't like me too much the other day and the business HR leader. Then weeeeeeekend!

7

I love how Merle Haggard was in the audience while in prison and was inspired to walk the line and become a professional musician

4

Johnny Cash is someone who I admire very much. Such a very a good person.

and I have all his music too somewhere , I just forget to play it

will put some on ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต

I can't help smiling, such good songs ๐Ÿฅฐ

4

Do I want to cook, or do I want takeaway from across the street?

7

Delicious takeaway and a short rest. Then use the energy to meal prep the bought ingredients so they donโ€™t go bad

2

What a week, just finished working. Iโ€™m exhausted. Well deserved pint & burger before I head home.

6
aussie.zone

my groceries are getting expensive, I notice there have been many price rises of 20-30%

from now on I'm printing out all receipts to keep track

tho looking at my pantry and fridge I am well stocked up , I could probably eat for 2-3 months and only buy some fresh fruit and veg

6
Eaglereply
aussie.zone

That, Omo and dishwasher tablets are an on special purchase only.

4
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

same, so many of my purchases are bulk on sale only

for example, last week I bought 2 x 5kg bags of rice at half price

even so my costs are through the roof

after a discussion with husband we are shopping at aldi from now on, this should save at least $400 a month

2
aussie.zone

Yeah I'm done with Coles and woollies. That's literally double what it was a couple of weeks ago.

2
aus.social

@Gibsonhasafluffybutt @Seagoon_ I have just been thinking the last few shops that prices at Colesworths are getting truly beyond a fucking joke, they had been rising for a while but I'm legit getting sticker shock now. I already shop at Aldi about half the time, but Woolies is the only one with Paul's cream, and no other cream is as good. There's also a handful of things my child appears to need to live that I can't get from Aldi. So I'm stuck doing one shop a week at Woolies ๐Ÿ˜ก

3

Iโ€™m not having good luck because the Aldis I can get to donโ€™t really have what I can eat or use. Either allergens are included so I canโ€™t buy it, the item isnโ€™t sold, or thereโ€™s no generic option.

I do buy the Trimat unscented laundry sauce which I prefer and stock up on, the sunflower spread seems to be ok to eat, and the Prince deodorant roll on seems to be good. The soy milk is fine. I am able to eat one or two of the lolly bags if I pay what they cost.

But yeah due to unfortunately having different needs itโ€™s awkward to try and shop there, a lot of my staples just arenโ€™t covered

1

Iโ€™m kind of glad I went back to hand wash because the Earth Choice dish soap costs $2 (ish) a bottle compared to dishwasher detergents

1

I prepped a dozen dahl servings for 55c a serve the other day.

I mostly use canola for cooking to spite the seed oil people.

4
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

woolies on line used to have lists of your past shops with past prices, that way we could incidentally track prices, woolies stopped that, only current prices are listed

as I said, print outs are the only way

one example of sky high price increases

5 years ago a big tin of moro light olive oil was $22, it's now over $65

3
MeanElevatorreply
aussie.zone

Olive oil prices have gone absolutely mad. I try to buy aussie made EVOO when I can anyway. Top quality and generally cheaper than the imported brands.

4
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

the local ones are strong tasting, I just use oil for cooking so want very low olive oil taste

3
MeanElevatorreply
aussie.zone

Have you tried something other than olive oil for cooking? Coconut works well for many things, smoke point is a bit low, but not terrible.

2
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

I use sunflower, no way am I going to spend $65

4

Buy these tins when the new season oil arrives, and they are moving older stock out of the warehouse - half price easily. And plenty good enough for everyday cooking and non-salad uses.

3

Iโ€™m noticing it too. How the hell do I pay so much when I eat so little??

Made it down the beach last night. Ended up building the 'puter. No mishaps. Certainly the fastest thing I've ever used.

Ended up going w/ win 11 ltsc. So far so good. No bunch of useless shit on there straight out of the gates.

And it's quiet even at load. Can hear the second hand of the clock in the other room when it's idle lol.

Only hitting 50c after an hour of prime95 which is wild. Obviously didn't bugger the thermal paste.

Now have to reinstall all the audio things which takes for ever.

6

Have a look at a script called win11debloat. Trust me man.

And I hear you about the plugins/daw installations. Would love to do a fresh install but fuck all that lol

Currently tossing up whether to build a or buy a prebuilt PC. Current one I'm using I didn't build and it's a bit of a monster put together over a few years with the last upgrades done in 2019. Boyo just nabbed a prebuilt and it's actually a great machine.

4

My old PC, Athena (yeah I name all my devices), I built, and she was a beast. I'm currently using a pre-built PC (Minerva) as it was just easier than buying PC components and building it myself at the time (one bedroom prison cell in the CBD).

The pre built is a small machine, it's very easy to move around, and runs the vast majority of games I like to play perfectly. It's a bit outdated now (bought in 2020), but it's really good!

I bought it from Tecs Pty on La Trobe St in the CBD. Also got two gaming chairs from them, and wheeling them back to my apartment along city streets is a memory I won't forget ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

4

Keep an eye on Ozbargin for deals from Nebula and Techfast. They even post their prices vs PC part picker to show the prices you're getting

Iโ€™m entirely ready for the weekend, but Friday keeps getting in the way

5

Oh that sucks. All the best for the presentation - you got this even after a night like that. And then you have non stressed sleep to look forward to ๐Ÿ˜ด

5

It's normal to be nervous, it means you have a good grasp on what's important.

hugs, you can do this ๐Ÿ˜Š

3

I hope you can get some some rest after everything is done.

For some reason, drinking black tea (even decaf) fucks up my sleep more than coffee if I have it late in the evening.

All the best today.

3

๐Ÿ˜ฎI hope pup is ok! I can't drink tea before bed or I'm off to the bathroom all night๐ŸซฉI hope your presentation goes well!

3

my god finally a sunny day in perth. can't wait til it starts regularly cracking over 20, i am so TIRED of this winter!!!

3

Bewildered that the local pub was booked out at 6pm today. It may be a Friday but I thought it would be like most pubs where they're dead that early on. Good thing I called ahead to confirm or we'd be turned away.

The kids came home from childcare the other day asking if they could go to the pub because they asked their nana what the building was. I thought we'd just be able to rock up but I guess not

Itโ€™s getting late in the month so I should probably do the frugal and gardening discussion threadsโ€ฆ kinda hard as I havenโ€™t really been growing much except for cat grass and havenโ€™t really been buying much/donโ€™t have many new budget tips to contribute.

Iโ€™ll work something out though. I feel like itโ€™s important to maintain activity on independent platforms and spaces in case they fizzle and you lose them.

2

Is it too late to start a โ€œFriday night party musicโ€ thread in the Rage instance? Screw it, I will. It can always be used for Saturday so itโ€™s a weekend one.

Book Review. Upheaval, Jared Diamond. It was a great premise, looking at the cultural qualities that determine resilience of countries but it was both not that insightful, sometimes wrong and dated. Don't bother.

Movie Review.

So it's no secret that one of my fave children's movies of all time is the The Witches, 1990. It's one of those movies I can quote and often do! I watched so many kid's movies when Miss Seagoon was a little Seagoon ) so I thought I would watch the remake. It's not even a kid's story, it's a parody of corporate culture. But anyway.

Loved it. I love how it is set in America, the casting is wonderful, the animation was aaaaawesoooome. Fun combination of effects and animation. The purple smoke was chef's kiss. It's changed up a little, the mice aren't turned back again. Not sure why not. I think the remake was careful to be religious, which was a wise move for America.

The mice stay mice in the original text as well, so in some ways (despite the setting change) this is a surprisingly faithful adaptation

Itโ€™s a whole thing. Mouse boyโ€™s oddly comforted to know that heโ€™ll live for about as long as the person he loves most in the world, and in a slightly unhinged way itโ€™s a beautiful ending
