What is your favorite Coen brothers movie?

The Coens are probably my favorite filmmakers, with True Grit being my favorite of theirs. It has an amazing cast, sublime landscapes, and an incredible revenge/coming-of-age narrative in which all the characters have believable motivations and clever dialogue.

It's hard to pick, but what do you think?

Mine is O, Brother Where Art Thou? because it's such a fun watch, it looks amazing, and the soundtrack is fire.

My favorite is undoubtedly Hudsucker Proxy. Written with Sam Raimi, super fun screwball comedy. "You know, for kids!"

I think the BEST one is probably Fargo though.

Fargo is the massive outlier for me. Maybe it's because I came from the Midwest, but holy shit I was blown away by it

It's an incredible film. All of the performances are fantastic and it's so starkly beautiful. They've made a lot of good movies but Fargo will always be their masterpiece for me. It's just got a fuckin' vibe that no other movie has.

It was between True Grit and Fargo for me.

It's amazing in how it constantly builds the stakes to something bad happening throughout while being such a tight narrative. It really is a masterpiece, among the best tragedies.

William H. Macy played such a good in-over-his-head sad sack.

They all lived together in an apartment at one point I think. Frances McDormand too if I remember correctly. Must have been an interesting place.

No Country for Old Men. Lebowski and Miller's Crossing are wonderful, but No Country is a masterpiece.

It's one of O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona, and The Big Lebowski.

I like nearly all of their filmography, but their silly shit is my favorite. Barton Fink is underrated though!

5

Raising Arizona is the perfect silly/earnest combination; it's my favorite Nicolas Cage movie.

As the director of their own work:

True Grit and it is a really hard choice.

As the writer of someone else’s work:

A Bridge of Spies (Spielberg)

As a producer of someone else’s work:

Bad Santa

Oh, I've never seen Bridge of Spies or Bad Santa. I'll have to change that.

I absolutely loved Joel Coen's Macbeth though, if we're talking other writers.

Oh man, the hard part about picking my favorite Coen Brother movie iis today it is True Grit, tomorrow it is Fargo, the next day it is No Country For Old Men.

Those two are two of the greatest.

Big Lebowski and O, Brother

Not even close imo. Hail, Caesar kinda sucked and was boring imo.
