Best narrative driven games on Gamepass, with equally solid gameplay?

Hey all, I'm just looking for some solid story driven games on Xbox gamepass, that are equally fun to play. I had been recommended the Mass Effect series, and while I believe the story will be great, the first game is an absolute slog to get through right now.

What are some good story games that are equally entertaining in the actual gameplay that are currently on gamepass?

Heck, even just games with solid gameplay will do, if the story is serviceable.

Not all inclusive, just a list of games I've personally enjoyed for both story and gameplay. All of these are story-heavy though:

-Dishonored -Dragon Age series -Fable series -Fallout series (3 and New Vegas are my favorites) -Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice -Middle-Earth: Shadow of War -Oblivion -Pillars of Eternity -Shadowrun -Yakuza: Like a Dragon (haven't played the others enough to have an opinion) -Titanfall 2

I just never realized how many I had already played until you listed them out! I've been meaning to try pillars of eternity, so I guess now is as good a time as any. And I've never played the Fable series. Do you feel they have held up the test of time?

I still think Yakuza 0 is the best starting point, but wouldn't discourage anyone from starting with Like a Dragon, either.

I wanted to try it, but I think I saw that it's turn based. Haven't been much of a fan of turn based games in the past. Unless maybe I'm mistaken?

Seconded on hellblade, that game is fantastic storytelling.

Also pillars and TF2 are vastly different styles but great games.

Gone home and firewatch are calm story driven games on the short side, but I'm not sure if they are available on gamepass.

If you haven't already, play the batman games.

Absolutely loved Hellblade, and very much looking forward to the sequel.

I like action-adventure games mostly, but here's my favourites so far on Game Pass:

  • Psychonauts 2
  • Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  • The Outer Worlds
  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Immortals Fenyx Rising
  • Death Stranding
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps

It's a console exclusive, but I believe it's actually on PC gamepass. So for those on PC, they can give it a try. But I'm on Xbox.

Chained Echoes, if you like SNES-era JRPGs!

Omori is fantastic, but also incredibly heavy (depictions of various mental health problems and dark themes; don't play it if you're not in a good place), and is unfortunately leaving on 07/01.

Persona 3 and 4 are pretty good, but I REALLY wish we'd gotten the PS2 version of P3 (FES) rather than the PSP one (Portable).

IMO? Keep playing ME. It's worth it.

Were you playing at a soldier class? If so, then maybe try a Vanguard or Adept as the biotic powers are more fun than shooting. Vanguard is especially fun in 2 and 3.

Maybe it's worth restarting and changing the class type. Because I'm just not enjoying the gameplay itself, even though the world and story seem interesting.

Wolfenstein the new order. Inside. Hollow knight. Hellblade. Pillars of eternity. Titan fall 2. Batman Arkham city.

I've played each of these except Pillars. I suppose it's time to give it a shot. Thank you!
