Australia Post halts most parcel postage to US immediately

Australia Post has suspended most postage to the US ahead of new tariffs on low-value parcels, with businesses wanting to ship to American customers now unable to use the government-owned carrier.
Some online retailers had pre-empted issues with sending goods to the US and stopped shipping there in recent weeks, as global postal services described "chaos".
From Friday, August 29, parcels valued under $US800 ($1,230) imported into the US will attract tariffs or flat fees.

That kinda the current administration's entire point. For who knows why, but thats what they think everyone wants. Or at least everyone bankrolling them.

I'm not... really sure what that means in this context.
I had a friend ship me a package via Aus Post on Saturday. The tracking page last updated at 1:33am on the 26th local time to say it'd been processed at the (Australian) airport. I assume we got in just in time to avoid being inconvenienced by this? If the package fails to arrive in the US before Friday will I have to pay an additional fee to receive it?
Nobody knows, that's why they've stopped post instead of just charging you the fee.
I'm thinking we might be in the clear. It says items marked as a "gift" with a value of less than $100 USD should still be exempt, and this is both of those. I've reached out to double check that they marked the "Gift" box on the customs form and find out what specific value they declared just to be safe.
Either way I'm still expecting chaos-related delays from this.
and the ones that knew how to get it all properly set up seems to have been fired or they've quit.
