Consolidation of Blender 3D Communities

Following communities of varying activity:

  • ![email protected] (most active)

  • ![email protected] (last post was 3 months ago)

  • ![email protected] (last post was 3 months ago)

  • ![email protected] (only 6 posts; 4 days ago then 2 months+ ago)

  • ![email protected] (last post 3 months ago)

  • ![email protected] (last post was 3 months ago)

  • ![email protected] (last post was 2 years ago)

  • ![email protected] (locked to mods only anyways)

I miss having a centralized community for Blender 3D modeling and sculpting like what Reddit has. I genuinely feel that this site has enough users to bring back a similar feeling community, but it seems that on Lemmy everything is so spread out. Seeing how I have finally visited the above communities and saw how sparce the content is I really feel we should/could condense the Blender topic down to one community, while also leaving a link in the about page of older lesser active places to take users to the most active location: ![email protected]. Is this something that the fediverse is also looking forward to accomplishing?

Edit: I am being told that one of these instances has shut down, so I feel that's just another good reason to consolidate these communities ๐Ÿ˜…

Edit 2: Not sure what the outcome has been since the most comments were saying was about the dead/inactive communities. So if anyone is looking for an active Blender community go to: ![email protected]

The mod there is @[email protected] and they were inactive for 1.5 years now.

What is the point of consolidation? Simply post to the most active one, and let others die silently.

  • pointing people looking for an active community to the correct one
  • avoiding people posting to a dead community where they won't get any answer where they could have gotten one from an active alternative

Paging![email protected] active moderator @[email protected]

Would you be open to consolidating this community with other instances to help centralize the content posted across lemmy for Blender? We could seriously bring everyone together that uses it, and if possible in the future do small community contests similar to Reddit or other forum-like sites for artists.

This one seems a little different

Yeah, I just meant that it looks like the one ran by Blender doesn't really compete for activity with the other general Blender user communities. I'm in favor of consolidation in most cases, but I think that one is justified in being a separate thing.

They probably prefer no to have to deal with spammers on that community
