I've been following this game for several years now (I am a Kickstarter backer), it's impressive how many different genre are combined in this game (while seemingly doing this in a manageable way).
I am looking forward to checking out the demo.
Is it feature creep or was it mostly planned stuff?
I would say mostly planned. It was always supposed to be galactic sandbox strategy with colonization, city-building and space station stations.
I tried the demo, couldn't figure out how to do anything, gave up. Bit too alpha for me at the moment, I'll try again when it's further along. The demo is very rough
How well does it work in proton?
Worked fine off the bat with proton
If I remember correctly, Linux support is planned, not sure about Linux support for demo.
Seems fun, might try it later.
