bruh they made us sit in the library and do homework for the whole day if we couldn't afford the trips bc our school would lose some funding for lower headcounts per day. they essentially threw kids in jail for a day for being poor. I remember there was a weeklong science camp our whole grade went on... except the kids who sat in the library for a whole WEEK for being too poor.

The poor kids at my school got to play games all day, I was almost jealous!

Be me.

Only child of single mother

Ask mum for $20 for school field trip

She looks like shes going to cry

"Get in the car anon"

We drive into the city

She parks and tells me to wait

See her talking to man on corner. They go into his building and she comes out 30 minutes later

"Here's your $20 anon."

Ouch... After all these years this still hurts. Remember my mom asking the neighbors for a bit of money for my class trip.

My school gave the authorisation papers including the value of the trip

Yeah, then we needed to clip the money to it and give it to the teacher.

every field trip i had had a permission form with the cost on it that had to be signed by a guardian or you were not allowed to go.

Yeah what school is just telling the kids to bring in money. That's asking for trouble.

When I was at school you actually had to pay for your lunch with cash. On the day.

Yeah, we didn't go to the school canteen.

15

In OPs case the field trip really only cost $10 but the teacher jacked it to $20 when they told the kids to shake down their parents

The 90s were a wild time where parents and teachers just trusted kids for some odd reason.

I think our school had parents come to the office to pay in cash in advance, and then you got a letter when you were running low

You reached the end
