I have a feeling that if Colbert or Stewart are removed, their audience will follow them wherever they decide to go.

I love Jon but I did not follow him to Apple. I don't need another subscription. Also I felt vindicated when he quit because they suppressed his anti-China speech.

Yeah, I'd follow him anywhere that I already have access to, and likely no further. If he let's someone put up barriers around what he makes, that's on him. He can easily do his own thing anywhere and have an audience. He just might get paid less, though I'm certain he has more than enough money to live the rest of his life happily.

Colbert though I don't follow. He's smart and funny, but I watched The Late Show and just do not care for the format. If he decides to do something else then I'd give it a shot, but not that format.

It's not just him though. He has a team that makes what he does possible.

2

Yeah, and he puts together a good team. He has a lot of people who'd gladly follow him wherever he wants to work with him.

I certainly didn't get an Apple subscription but I absolutely stopped watching The Daily Show. Even now I only watch the episodes he's on. And that's just on YouTube.

Regardless of whether you like Colbert/Stewart, I don't know how you can't find this absolutely chilling. It makes me think of Steven Fry's character in V for Vendetta.

I don't find it chilling at all, mainly because I don't give a single flying fuck about Hollywood/TV drama.

They already didn't renew After Midnight hard to believe thay is not related.

I believe that After Midnight wasn't renewed because Taylor Tomlinson was going back on tour and they decided to not continue without her.

28

That's correct, she said so on one of the episodes. A shame, but you can tell the last few months were stressful to say the least.

12

I found her personality on the show very unnatural. It was clear to me that she was doing and saying what she was told to, and everything was heavily scripted. She is not a fantastic actress. I couldn't watch more than a couple of episodes.

I'm pleased she is going back on tour, because that is where her particular wit and delivery really shine.

4

Yeah and she totally checked out - it's really obvious. She reads straight from the cue cards. She laughs contractually at the really bad forced jokes by actors who think they're funny. Clearly she hates the show now and feels it is a huge burden.

I can't blame her for not wanting to renew.

I haven't watched these guys since the Bush era ended. Any highlights or cool things I should know or what-have-you?

Can’t believe anyone still takes these guys seriously. Good riddance.

Jon hosted a DoD war games event at Disney World, where he honored a self-avowed Nazi as a hero. He also used his podcast to push the same narratives he had previously been calling out, even allowing Hillary Clinton & Condoleezza Rice to peddle the same bullshit war mongering he pretended to oppose.

Colbert has been pushing Israeli propaganda throughout the genocide, and has been using his show to push neoliberal propaganda for years now.

-1

Man that podcast episode drove me insane. They both teamed up to praise Henry Kissinger for five straight minutes I swear.

Responsible for perpetuating a political philosophy that’s influenced a generation of smug know-nothing neoliberal trash that’s done nothing but continue the US down a trajectory of stagnation and will help usher in a century of humiliation and genocide.

Probably would've been a good idea. Posting anything that goes against the accepted narrative gets your commented removed around here I guess. Oh well.

No, it's the being uncivil about it. I didn't delete your other posts.

I’d like to hear how you define being uncivil. You allowed plenty of people to pile on me and only deleted my comments where I defended myself. Making it even easier for people to continue flaming me. If that isn’t influencing the narrative I don’t know what is.

-5

I've deleted one of the posts made to you that was provoking as well, if you look at the thread.

6

What’s more robotic? Thinking for yourself or just going along with the generally accepted opinion?

-4

Stwert, at least, has been pretty hard on establishment democrats, especially recently, though this has always been the case to an extent. I think you have an opinion that is based on a perception that isn't totally accurate.

Was I supposed to be taking comedians seriously?

Apparently Trump takes them seriously and sees them as a threat. Or maybe they just hurt his feelings.

19

I don’t think you were, no. I hope you didn’t. I know I didn’t, but it seems like a lot of people do. I hope they stop soon.

-12
lemmy.ca

Do you hope Trump stops taking them seriously, or do you hope people stop taking the freedom of speech of comedians seriously?

6

If they’re really canceling the shows for political reasons, that’s bad. Personally I think it’s because cable TV is pretty much dead. All these networks are circling the drain at this point. More and more shows are getting canceled regardless of politics.

I haven't watched Colbert in a long time, just didn't much care for The Late Show being a more generic talk show. But I've been pleasantly surprised by how good The Daily Show still is with Stewart's return and the rest of the team, they've still got it.

18
lemmy.world

Anytime I’ve watched Colbert’s show it’s clear that he is an egotistical holier than thou dude who doesn’t respect most of his guests. He doesn’t interview well.

On top of that, the format of nightly talk show means he’s always making the same or similar jokes, and always harping on the same things. It’s tiresome, even if I agree with a lot of it.

Edit due to post locked: I’m talking about The Late show, not the Colbert report. The Colbert report was funny, and he played a character.

Your suggestion is unfounded and inflammatory. So that would lead me to believe you do think that way.

No, I don’t understand. You’re just confirming my original suggestion. All I did was disagree with you. Which makes me seem like a MAGA person to you.
