HULK PODIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT HAS HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!

Last-to-podium in the wet by a driver holding the record for most race starts without a podium. Might be the most DotD of all the DotDs.

His first podium ever, not since 2012. He was close in Brasil 2012, but threw it away.

Hulk podium today?

Edit: Hulk podium today! In a fucking Sauber!

8 seconds to ham, want both on the podium, very conflicted

4

Easy, we just have an angry Piastri take out Norris then go Hulk for the win, with Hamilton and Stroll on the podium.

Don't dream small

7

Either Norris or Piastri, or both spinning off would also do it.

2

Man first time seeing Oscar totally pissed. First time seeing Norris winning the British GP and first time seeing Hulk on the podium.

What a race!

Did we just lose places for fun?

Crazy how you never get it right with me

-Fernando Alonso 2025, coming to terms with the fact that his teammate's dad pays billions to give his son the preferred strategy

I don't think the quotation marks are needed there. Though today it wasn't really luck. Aston just chose to fuck him while at the same time pulling a strategy masterclass on Stroll. I'd be pissed too.

true but having a shitty strategy doesn't make you unlucky per say.. I'm surprise no one tried the wet tires

2
Coelacanthreply
feddit.nu

It's not even close to wet enough for full wets. Visibility means we will never see them used as they require conditions that are currently considered unraceable.

5

Rule number 1 for Norris : Don't fuck it up

love it. keep it simple. I'm sure the swearing police will be on him for the word fuck.

Edit:1

11

Good Race. Mercedes nowhere. Leclerc struggling (must be the water). Hamilton, Good in P4. The Hulk P3. Papaya fighting to be continued.

Lando's interaction with his mom was so pure and lovely. I hate that do close after this that asshole MBS gets screen time again.

The current FIA president looking to make the FIA as corrupt as FIFA.

If that isn't a 10 second penalty for Piastri I don't know what is. Even Norris almost crashed into him.

Edit: called it. DC and Palmer are delusional that they think it's fine.

9
Nighedreply
feddit.uk

The problem is that that means nothing, he is so far out front compared to max.

2
Pardalreply
lemmy.world

Max did spin after that safety car incident, so the penalty is still fair…

2
Worxreply
lemmynsfw.com

Yeah, but he didn't spin due to Piastri's bad driving though

3
Nighedreply
feddit.uk

Sky commentary says it was done to make max get cold tires, so maybe

1
DV8reply
lemmy.world

Commentators have favourites, especially Sky. Even Palmer and DC are still unwilling to admit they're wrong and that Piastri did anything wrong. Which is absurd. If the two cars behind you almost crash into you, you made a mistake.

It's such an obvious unsafe way to drive that nobody could expect him to het away it. Especially because he's not British like Russell.

2

I literally hope Max has a miracle win, but you can't blame Piastri for that.

2
lemmy.world

Once again the race is paused with a safety car without giving the chance for the teams to use the wets… why do they even make those tyres anyway?

Need to edit a gif with people holding up score cards

Slicks seemed to have been a bad gamble. The VSCs ruined all chances of gaining track positions before the next spell of rain.

7
Coelacanthreply
feddit.nu

It was a worthwhile gamble to take for those who did I think.

3

well the F2 earlier try the same and had similar bad luck. It's Britain, it rained

2

That Verstappen spin was wild.

Mad race so far.

Stroll in P3.

7

There is also Hülkenberg on P4, who has never been on the podium. 👀

5

Effective P2 with the new penalty for Piastri

Nevermind, McLaren are already too far ahead for 10s to matter

2

Yeah RIP Max with that low downforce setup, McLaren is even stronger on a drying track with their tyre magic (if it stops raining).

And now that it's a confirmed wet race I'm swapping Ferrari for Mercedes in my fantasy team.

7

With the amount of downforce these cars generate I bet that slimmed wing is still a net gain around here up until we start nearing the crossover between inters and full wets. And if those are the conditions we won't be racing anyway.

4

Overtaking on a semi wet track is no small feat. The normal line is quickly going to be a lot faster so as long as he can keep ahead in the first lap, he's looking good to win.

Neither Norris nor Piastri will want to risk slipping off the track and possibly lose 18 points to each other. Either of them risking this past lap 1 would be considered as taking a high risk for a low reward.

2

Antonelli needs to live up to his reputation from the junior series as a wet weather bandit. He's in a great spot here as first of the slick runners.

6

Looks like it's raining again. Hopefully it makes for an interesting race.

6

We all do whenever it rains, but instead we get postponed race start until conditions are barely damp enough for inters, with everyone switching to slicks within a couple of laps and no overtaking being possible due to only a single dry line existing.

4

Flashbacks the the rain opener in Australia where only Antonelli finished put of all the rookies.

5
sopuli.xyz

I think the Norris-Piastri rivalry might produce some fireworks later on this year.

5

Yeah, but i don't think he really noticed how much he used for breaking. he lost like 100mph for the break. Crazy

3

Very mature response from Piastri even after Jensen Button asked him again. You could tell he was getting upset then he just stopped talking before he said something really silly. And remembered to congratulate Hülkenburg in the interview and Norris immediately after getting out of the car

5
feddit.nu

Did anyone see how Hamilton suddenly lost 2 seconds? Was super strange, I didn't see him go off?

4
Nighedreply

Did the same as PIA on the fun bit (maggots, Becket's?)

Stroll and Hulk podium Lord please 🙏

4

"Is Alonso washed? Calls for veteran racer to retire as teammate Lance Stroll demolishes him in waterlogged British Grand Prix"

3

Unbelievable he's kept it on track though, have you been watching his onboards? Crazy.

2
feddit.nu

Antonelli has been so unlucky man. Diffuser damage now through no fault of his own. Surprised they'll even have him try to finish.

3
DV8
lemmy.world

I wonder what will happen if a safety car happens now(lap37) and Piastri pits. Will Norris still go for a double stack?

3
DV8
lemmy.world

Part of the track is bone dry. I wonder who will put at the end of formation.

Looks like Leclerc and Russell will play with water.

3

I might have the right mental age but nope, regular broadcast! Just too much stuff on the screen! Lines following the cars, nametags on the cars, I don't mind the graphic interface but when it's actually over the racing it's just distracting to me personally!

3

Wait, why does Tsunoda get penalised for that? It looked like Bearman drove into him from the onboard replay. Was Tsunoda supposed to brake to let him ahead or something?
