If you are on voyager, tag them and never be unaware again LOL

lol wow I hope folks don't follow my ramblings. :-) But I do like Voyager and TY for suggesting!

Some certainly do. I've never been much of a podcast person myself. The closest I follow is the Cody Showdy AKA some more news. but it's a bit more Straight Up Performance than just basic podcast.

I do watch a lot of tech YouTubers. And have done some shows myself. I know the amount of time and effort that can go even into simple ones. They require a lot of passion and drive to produce. And especially for topics like this where there isn't a lot of money in it. It's definitely deserves some respect.

I know I've been considering Reviving an old program myself. If it's worth all the work again.

Oh I absolutely do it for passion. LOVE talking with folks, especially about foss and open platforms. And definitely haven't made really any money. And any money goes to TubeFree or back to the Fediverse somehow. I've definitely spent way more than I've made. Lol

That's how it was DJing for me. I never made a lot of money. But I always enjoyed sharing the music. LOL, perhaps someday I will find someone to pay me to do it. But not everyone can be as lucky as Rodney anonymous. Of course it doesn't hurt that he was famous as well:-)

My current favorite and most used threadiverse app. They just added experimental piefed support.

It allows you to locally tag users to help keep track. As well as tracking your Collective up and down total for users. Along with all the other standard features everyone else provides. The only thing that could make it better for me is if there were a desktop version. Lift off now a long defunct browser for Lenny had iOS Android and desktop versions. I still miss that.

11

That is excellent too. Just another reason for people to switch over from Lemmy.

5

lol I am here. I'm all in on the Fediverse. ;-) If there's a platform in the Fedi I'm not on, please let me know so I can learn about it! :-D

TY for linking. :-)

Asking for constructive criticism reasons, is there a reason you don't watch or listen? I've been told my mic quality bothers folk, so working on getting a new setup for that this week hopefully. :-D If you just don't listen because you're not a consumer of that kind of content or just not interested, totally understand. I just thriving on constructive criticism. :-)

6

You don't always need an expensive microphone. But a pop filter can make a much bigger impact than you would believe. Honestly the thing I see a lot of YouTubers using often that seems to work out quite well are lavalier mics. Not the traditional desktop microphones.

A lavalier microphone attached to a collar or lapel. Is generally outside of the direct path of your voice. So the need for pop filtering Etc is reduced. Though many of them do provide filters for it. Further since they are generally clipped to you the distance between you and them doesn't change much. Meaning that your levels stay much more consistent and even. No leaning away from mic and then back in. And they sometimes have a few less issues with assonance.

That's not even touching the headaches that can be simply capturing footage or streaming in obs. That rabbit hole goes deep. It's also a lot of fun with a lot of opportunity to be creative.

And as I said in my other post I just don't tend to listen to many podcasts at all. I have listened to behind the bastards a little bit in the past, Pod save America a couple times. Even the Retro hour a few times with RMC. But it's just never been something that I have a lot of time available to focus on or desire to. Though I might give it a try.

Awesome! I'm scheduling out to end of July, but if you wanna toss me an email address or best place to contact you I'll add you to the ever growing list of awesome folks. :-D

i love it but Please choose a name that can be pronounced

gabbomanreply
lemmy.world

no. it means "we allow female representing nipples". Also there is no canonica way of pronunciating it

14

You had me at reticulating splines.

e. Registrations over VPN are disabled. Pause it while registering or you'll have to spend an entire minute rewriting the stuff D=

23

My god cat with disturbingly human lips, the internet is back.

Seriously, I love it. Correct amount of humor and functionality. I’m on the road but I’ll be signing up for sure.

Is it pronounced like the blood thinner/rat poison (warfarin)?

Is that how it kills the rats? Thins their blood to death?

Well, tumblr died out in 2017 because they said "NO PORN!!!"

And all the blogs died.

It's like Dr Cox said: "If you take all the porn off the internet, there'd only be one website left. www.bringbacktheporn.com and nobody would visit because it doesn't have porn."

So. Does WAFRN have porn? And also.....why are these things ALWAYS named with weird hard to pronounce names? Come see my new website Drufyflezak!

22
lemmy.world

Wait.....now you're the second person to say this. I thought the other guy was joking.

Is this legit what it stands for??? Because thats hilarious!

I always figured because the weird names have cheaper domain registrations. However wafrn is a pretty short name so, it probably is on the high end.

Fantastic idea! I miss Tumblr terribly ever since the Great Porn Ban of 2018, even though I never even reblogged or followed 'adult' blogs. I just wanted to reblog holsum and funny fanart, but fuck giving into puritan corpo censorship.

What's the moderation policy on genocide denial and the like? I hate having to ask this, but having heard too many people deny the Holodomor on here, I feel it necessary to make the inquiry.

For that matter, more generally, are you prepared, in terms of moderation structure, for the massive amount of legitimately disturbing material that's going to pass through the site and will need to be removed if the site grows beyond a few hundred users? I would hate to join and then see this crash because of (completely understandable) moderator/admin burnout at the depravity and speed of mankind's worst elements.

20

its a fedi platform, shit will happen but we have blocked the worst of the wrost on fedi. And we also check registrations for vpns. Registration with vpn is not allowed for safety

I see the tumblr culture is already present, congrats! Although I never personally used tumblr, my understanding is that more than features or functionality it was very much the culture that its users cultivated that made that site special.

17

actually I never used tumblr in my life I am just gay as fuck

sincerely, That One Wafrn Dev™

2

Exciting! I've made an effort to let go of Insta for both privacy and hatred of Zuck's policies, which left me stuck on Tumblr to look at any fanart/fandom content. Hopefully this could replace people's need for Tumblr in a few years, especially since they also do a shit job of caring about their users.

Edit: Knowing the context of the name is hilarious, wish I was there for the Tumblr exodus. I will be sure to spread to other platforms about this wonderful service.

15

Why do these kind of things always have random-name-generator names? Just name it something sane.

Also includes Doom in the settings. Mouse didn't work for me though.

I never understood what tumblr was. How is it any different from twitter etc... ?

8

I am gona tell you a secret: yes but no. It shows full threads by default, thats a starter

8

For me, Tumblr was an online culture different from the ADHD of other journaling/blogging platforms like Instagram or Twitter. You could find conversations in tags, gifs didn't lag my browser to hell, fan content was proliferous there, webpages could be personalized to the lengths you might've gone to in MySpace. It was the place to find fandoms and fandom content, even for the most obscure series. There were no ads. And I felt like gifs/texts of porn and kinks were made more accessible when searched for by tags.

There was no algorithm - discovery of new blogs was just subscribing to tags & maybe following who your followed-people followed, the way the fediverse kinda is.

I felt like the presentation was good to relish each post of content with less distraction, and the pagination + scroll browsing was just enough to keep me addicted.

Someone correct me if I'm remembering it wrong.

RIP 2011 Tumblr

wafrn stands for We Allow Female Representing Nipples in reference to 2018 tumblr porn ban

15
gabbomanreply
lemmy.world

that is correct but I already bought the domain when I realized that and waprn doesnt sound as well

16

i was big in the david karp era fandom tumblr and loved it during gleek tumblr and spn tumblr days (i still have an account but don't use it as much) so i'm definitely going to look at this (as someone that also uses bsky, i like the idea that it's integrated with atproto too. i trust that it's trans and queer friendly too? :^

any plans to appease the cohost crowd and allow css in posts?

4

we do allow some CSS and extensive HTML tags in our posts, there is also an admin tool that allows (to some degree) importing old Cohost exports

Honestly very excited to see this! Will share with my friends but they're not early adopter types, sadly. I'll sign up though!

2

Oh I know that, but UI wise that's not really communicated on our side, it just looks like any other post

@[email protected] ,

Is registration on the wafrn website backlogged? I submitted a registration bout 12 hours ago, and the registration page said to wait a few hours for review. Got nothin in my email just yet. Not that I'm antsy, and there's no rush; just hoping to know when I should follow up to log in :u

I didn't get any email confirmation about my submitted registration, I realize. I refrained to keep from spamming, but... Should I actually submit another? :x
Edit: think I saw the fdroid app & submitted my registration form there, mentioning in case it's relevant

Thank you for this! I'm not sure how I would've found out about Wafrn otherwise, lol

2

Ahhhh, immediately got a confirmation that my registration was submitted! Ty, ty

Edit: did it through the website, FYSA

2

This guy's videos are what got me to get on Tumblr. Though I just end up using it to scream into the void because nobody ever comments or reblogs with added content.

Lotsa good art and OC fanfic tho.

2

Interesting: Activityhub and bluesky integration out the door. Thats a first (I think?)

Sure would be nice if the fediverse realized that part of what is holding back adoption is your nonsensical gen alpha service names.
