This is kinda interesting, like a crossword.
I think there should be a ripcord action, like in Wheel of Fortune where you can attempt to solve the base phrase without resolving all clues, for extra points.
Thing is, it's sometimes easier to solve the final puzzle or some of the outer clues, and then use that to determine the inner most blank for context.
Hmm, I've having trouble picturing that but this is the first time I've seen this, so I'll take your word for it.
