GOG now accepts donations when you buy a game, like it's a charity or something
The donations are tied to GOG's Preservation Program, which aims to keep old games running on new hardware even when they're no longer supported by their original developers

GOG is not a nonprofit. They don't need donations and I doubt there is any accountability for this money.

I assumed people supported these old game repackages by, you know, buying them - or will GOG give them away?
I need more details of how this works, honestly. Are the donations going 100% towards game preservation efforts, as opposed to normal sales where GOG takes a cut to make a profit? If so then I can see it. But otherwise donating to a for-profit company seems odd.
They backed out of supporting the Stop Killing Games initiative led by Ross Scott so I rather doubt it's to support preservation at this point.
I'm okay with this as long as it's being used properly.
Oh my sweet summer child.
Just like ATMs at the pickup counter have a default tipping prompt, which is now normalized, imagine filling up at the gas pump and being prompted ahead of time to leave a tip. Or on your Netflix subscription. Etc. Corps will take advantage of this shit once someone starts it and goes with it.

That's silly, when we all know we want to tip instead of donate
