If a person disagrees with an unpopular opinion, then they should upvote it

The person sharing their unpopular opinion is doing exactly what's expected of them, so why downvote it when you agree that's it's an unpopular opinion? An upvote would be you agreeing that it's an unpopular opinion. Downvoting it means you're either an A-hole or you disagree that it's an unpopular opinion.

Now I leave you with a joke. Silver was walking down the street and bumped into gold. Silver says "Ey, You'. Gold replies "Ey, G!"

If a person thinks more people should see an unpopular opinion, they snould upvote it. Theres no karma here. The function of up and down vote is promotion or relegation.

An upvote means that the content should be shared, a downvote means it should not.

Yep.On the other platform, it often seemed to me like "unpopular opinion" was starting to be exploited as a loophole to promote intolerant views that would be downvoted nearly anywhere else. Paradoxically.

Unpopular opinion, this is Lemmy/Kbin. Nobody gives a rat's arse about imaginary points and neither should you. Upvote or downvote as you feel.

We all know that. Everyone knows this. But getting over the csrnal drive to shit on people you disagree with is difficult for the individual, impossible for the crowd. That's why I take down voted as a sign of success, or deliberately frame things such that the people who would down vote can't without looking stupid.

This is how r/the10thdentist worked, and it became what r/unpopularopinion should have been. So I agree

So, you’re saying I should downvote, because the chemistry joke is funny?

1

Probably not. It's not that it's not possible, but that would mean that there's a change that the greater whole would have to make. Plus to code something as miniscule as that is neither worthwhile or profitable
