i think it's more a case of the explanation being too long and stupid to understand. like, when you have to issue hours of reading material (like the half-hour hbomb video essay on the CAD webcomic and the KYM page on Me Gusta and its descendants and the entirety of Hyperbole and a Half) and the payoff is that the comic is now even more stupid than before, i think we both can agree that it's just not worth it.
